I love the franchise. But! You make some really good points in this video. My problem with the creators of the franchise is that they did not focus hard enough on keeping the story tighter. There’s too much jammed into these movies that could’ve been spread out throughout the saga

Never has anything else hyped me up for a piece of fictional media that never exists like crosscode does to crossworlds. I want to play that game so bad. I want to play a different class to see how they work. If crossworlds actually existed as an online mmo, I probably would play it, even though I don’t typically like those genres. They do such a good job at making the world feel ALIVE with these little npc dialogues, which is why I can’t recommend the game enough.

The girls last tour world is so bleak and empty of hope ... There are no plants, no mouse, no cockroaches, nothing. Usually these creatures would at least survive in any other apocalyptic event, but God damn any living thing to ever live on GLTs world anymore

Damn. What a journey. Found your channel through that Girlsʼ Last Tour video, watched a few, then this one (for including Haibane Renmei in the thumbnail). Got an itch of curiosity about your brief review of Magical Girl, and here Iʼm again, two hours later. Damn. I really enjoyed the movie. It feels like we watched two completly different films, and I like that as well. Donʼt know exactly what was I expecting, but the plot of “things go bad, then bad, then worst, then boom” was -despite being quite unnoriginal in paper-, pretty well executed in my opinion. Iʼd say the ending could be better, cinematography wise, but it actually nailed it in regards to the writing, (in my opinion at least). Reminded me of “Shoujo” by Yukiko Mishima, for the intertwined cast of “troubled” people essentially ruinning the life of the rest of the cast in a tragic circle. (Great movie, btw) But the best thing above all.? The fact that I only watched the movie because of a negative review in the midst of a video published 3 years ago, with minimal views, that I watched mostly by chance. It feels MAGICAL. Good night.

Thank you for watching a long, overshadowed video I made years ago because you liked a couple things I made. I was probably too harsh on Magical Girl, but i just never gelled with its story. I'm glad my negativity helped it find someone who liked it. I haven't though about it much since 2020 so I can't really debate much on it as it's mainly personal taste anyway. And it wouldn't be the first time I've just missed the point. Some things you come back to years later and say "ohhhh that's what it's about" Also good to hear the Girls Last Tour video is still drawing people in. it's one of the few things I've made I'm actually happy with (aside from the frame drop in the middle where rendering screwed up and I didn't notice until it was posted)

I want to add something to the design philosophy of the architecture, particularly to also disagree with a few points you made. I will spoil what happens at the end of the manga as well, because it is relevant. In GLT, the theme is about how life is fleeting and hopeless and it uses the metaphor of a spiral to describe it. In the chapter "spiral", this is directly pointed out. The spiral always moves forward, or in this case up, so it's fitting how the layers are connected via long spiral towers and staircases, and the girls always move up and never down. In the final 2 chapters, they ascend a long spiral staircase that ends in a plain snow field with nothing but a stone in it, basically symbolizing the end of life. There are also themes of how despite things being left behind, things will at one point come to a definitive end. For example, there's a chapter where they visit an art gallery and place humanity's last drawing right next to the first one, the irony being that it wraps up humanity's project of art definitively, but there's really nobody left to see it after the girls leave. The world of GLT is also kind of special in how it just straight up doesn't have any living beings left in it. In Nier Automata, animals still live and thrive and human existence is continued through machines and androids who at the end learn how to exist without a god, but in GLT there's just nothing. Not even insects or plants. The moral isn't really that we leave things behind, it's that we will all die and there's nothing preventing that from happening, but how making peace with that fact lets you appreciate life more and stop worrying about things that can't be reversed. The city is a metaphor for this as well. It is said to have a life at various points and in the extra chapter, we get to see a couple of panels of it once more, how it finally and definitively dies, With no more layers left to be built on top of it.

Good points. I chose not to focus on the ending, though I used a couple panels from the final chapter in the video as visuals anyway, because what really interested me was not the symbolism of the architecture, but the literal, physical reality of a world build only for human habitation. That's what interested me in particular about the world.

this is a blink and you miss it moment in the background. if background "npcs" have this level of writing, what does the main story and important characters look like? THAT is where the selling point comes in, though no one is going to claim a short is enough info on the game to make an informed purchase. If you really want something to sell you on the game, try the newgrounds demo that is still up and judge from there after getting a taste of what the game has to offer.
