47hp 52nm and 215kg.. for me this a serious point for choosing a Triumph (older model) over the Royal Enfield. I've driven bikes with 90 hp to 140hp from 170kg to 225kg. And I'm afraid this is just far too little power for me. I really like the look of the Interceptor though. A version with 75 - 90 hp would be better.

Interesting bits: the RE sold in North America (including Mexico) is Euro 4, and so it is mapped differently. Of course you are talking about the bike as it comes from stock, but I would look for an alternative ECU or an ECU that I could remap to make the mixtures richer and try to bring down those idle RPMs and have the bike run cooler (although that would be illegal to do in the EU, but then you can switch back when going for inspection). I weight some 115 Kg and totally agree: the seat is a literal pain, even after an hour or two. I'll ask for the touring seat at the dealership, great advice. A cheap option is to put some sheep coat around the seat for long rides. Also, this bike REALLY doesn't like to ride with a passenger: not only because of the low power (although the torque helps to start moving), but the suspension will bottom out and as you say, the breaks will be insufficient. Most of the trips I have done on my Int650 have been with a passenger, and it feels as if they changed your bike instantaneously as soon as the passenger gets on... including the handling, which goes to hell as well. My best recomendation is to try to do solo trips, or in groups (or accept like me that you will be having the joy of sharing the ride, but it will be quite crappy, and not the real Int650 experience). Some other details: pillions WILL step on the mufflers, as the foot rests are almost touching them, and after a long ride, they will forget to keep an eye on that detail, and they will melt their boot heels and will leave a mark on those gorgeous pipes. Again: the Interceptor is at its BEST when riding solo.

Also, I wouldn't go for the 150 tyre... a retro bike is supposed to have skinny tyres, and the performance, which you wish you had more, will suffer. Regarding performance, I see this bike as the equivalent of a modern bike with a 400cc modern engine. The 650 engine is overengineered and the shaft and transmission can easily handle more power, but of course you would have to do an overhaul, which defeats the prospect of a low budget. The point is that I wouldn't measure against other 600 category bikes unless they are old tech as well (for example, the Suzuki DR650 engine). With the 650 RE bikes, you are effectively buying 400cc-equivalent bikes with more torque, but heavier. A friend of mine has a Zontes 400 (which is actually like 385cc) and he can keep up with me no problem, because his is liquid-cooled and he and his bike are lighter, but my Interceptor runs at the same speed at a more relaxed RPM.

Good video. Thanks very much. I don’t think anyone ever said it was fast. You obviously know what you’re talking about and I’m sure you looked up the specifications before you bought. I would love one but I find the maintenance costs way too high for a cheap bike. Kind of defeats the purpose. Thanks again and merry Christmas

I’m with you Bart. I honestly think Royal Enfield give smiles per mile at a cost that proves the mainstream brands are ripping us off. We don’t need rider modes , we don’t need traction control, we just want a raw bike that puts a smile on our faces. We want to be able fix it and service ourselves. Motorcycling is more than just the ride. It’s the whole experience and lifestyle that counts. Royal Enfield have nailed it big time and that’s why they make more in a month than Triumph does in a year.

To me it just sounds like you bought the bike without knowing what kind of bike it was. 😅 You simply can't buy one of the cheapest bikes of its class out there and expect premium quality. Sure, polishing aluminium is a chore, but it's cheaper than chrome plating and there are models with powder coated aluminium instead. Servicing your bike is extortionately expensive in Europe, no matter the brand, but the bike is simple enough to do all the basic servicing by yourself. The original seat is like sitting on a plank, but a comfort seat is 150 euro, far less than a seat for basically any other brand out there.The bike is heavy, yes, but so were the bikes it's trying to impersonate. It's the price you pay to not get plastic shit. I can't find too many reports about leaking engines, but that's something that ought to reveal itself pretty quickly during running in and will be covered by the 3 year warranty. Leakage is unacceptable no matter what brand or model. Cheers.

totally useless video. INTERCEPTOR 650 owners know it is not that fast bike before buying. they don't buy it for fast rides. these bikes are cheap to maintain. easy to do service. you can get many aftermarket accesories for int650 and make it comfertable for you. you said it has engine problems. but this 650 paralel twin engine is one of the most reliable engine in the market today.

While I agree with you points, I love the fact that I can set the valve clearance and replace spark plugs on this bike myself, I don’t have to replace multiple brake pads due to only one disc on the front (can use a good quality one). I made my own seat by replacing the foam on the original seat, replaced the fork oil with a thicker one, replaced exhausts. Adding a BoosterPlug was the best addition. Runs great and is super fun. For people that love working on their bikes and actively maintain them, this is a fantastic option.

Come on…engine light - no problem ( good opportunity to learn more about your bike😊), service cost- that’s the price you have to pay for the Garantie ( because inexperienced drivers complains about the smallest thing), the sound - wow fantastic sound on the RE 💪💪. This is a bike with soul and not one off a bunch from Japan/Thailand/Kina….I bought this year a Triumph 400 x. I have 2 other bikes, one from 1986 and a BMW K1200LT from 2001. The 400 x I had also have to pay 340 dollars for 1.service. Not because the work/oil was so expensive but because the Garantie is expensive. Also on mine 400x the was some indicators flashing. No problem- I found out what was the problem. But I have seen a lot of people running down the dealership with the same issues….. The BMW I have had almost since new, never been to a dealership- I have done all the maintenance/repairs on it. Driving a bike is a lifestyle, learn to know what you have between your legs 😆.

I know I am very late to the party, but I have to say, had I seen your review earlier, I would not have bought my Interceptor, however........ I'm so glad I didn't see your review because I did buy a second-hand interceptor, and I love it 😊. The bike is a 2020 model and only had 1400 miles on the clock. It is pretty much factory spec, except I have put on a touring seat and changed the factory relays with Bosch 5 pin upgrades. To put it mildly, the Interceptor runs like clockwork, smooth power delivery, handling is good, sounds amazing, and at 64 years young, I'm totally loving it. I love the classic look, the ease in which the owner can service the bike, the fact that it turns heads, in a positive way, when I'm out riding it and to date has been nothing but fun. I ride when I can, and this bike is all I need, so much so that I am smiling from ear to ear every time I take her out. With respect, it seems that your homework prior to buying this bike could have been better. A price point such as this will never meet the quantity of other brands, but surely you must have known this before parting with your money. I also do not understand why you would commit to a further 2 - 5 years on a bike that you obviously do not trust or have any confidence. I think Royal Enfield and you will never be best buddies, but for some, this bike represents fantastic value for money. Thank you for your honesty, and as one very happy Interceptor owner, I would advise that you sell it and buy something you feel would be more suitable.

I bought the RE 650 Super Meteor last year. Over 5,000 miles later my only two small whinge's are as follows. She really needs better rear suspension. And finally a better rear brake. Traveling between 60 to 70 mph two-up the rear brake is in my opinion laking under hard breaking. You can see by ny profile pic which model I'm riding. We went to Cornwall on her last year. Neither passanger or rider hand sore bottom issuse! She run happily two-up at 70 mph. Just over 320 miles journey and it cost under £25 in petrol. Ive been riding since 1970. And as I'm 71 years young next year, this bike suits my style of riding. And she handle's the tight Cornish roads very well, wet or dry. I hope you find my thoughts interesting? Safe riding dude 🤘...

I´ve been riding bikes for 40years... My 1966 Triumph Bonneville 1966 (with 1973 750 enginge - single carburator) had 47 hp! It was 20hg lighter but had enough power! Your comments suggests that (as others have suggested) you should buy a "new Triumph T100 or T120". When I was younger I ride all over Europe with my Bonnie. The main problem derived from vibrations! Cracks... and a standing joke was that riding one hour = Repair one hour. The RE 650 seems to me like a dream. The new notion about adventure biking (off road) is utter stupidity...Real adventure is (apart from stunning views) meeting other people (cultures) and not fighting dirt roads. I will buy a Interceptor and prepare it for riding in SE Asia (retire in 8 months !!). / Sunny.

My RE 650 developed the infamous gearbox death from factory (gears not hardened properly from factory for the 2021/22 models). Sure it was fixed under warranty but it took 8 months to fix due to world wide shortage…I think you DONT get what you pay for not nearly enough. RE the check engine…if you ran it empty then the fuel pump will cause the light to come on…start it and stop it 5 times will reset it. If it goes away then it was just a warning.

I’ve watched probably about 20+ reviews of this bike and none of them have suggested it’s “agile” and “easy” to ride. They’ve all said that it’s great for the price point as a bike, no one buys this bike for it to be agile in the corners.

I agree with you. I've owned an Interceptor 650 for four years and love riding it daily. While it has some issues, the repairs are cheap. Some brands charge for repairs or maintenance so expensive. And if you want a motorcycle that has few or no problems and maintenance costs are not expensive, you can buy a Japanese brand. But I live classic motorcycles with great engine sound, Interceptor 650 is perfect for me now.

The price at which these bikes are being sold, is 100% more expensive than they are available in India. For that price one could rather buy a pre owned triumph street twin or a Kawasaki W800. The Enfields are way too below in terms of long term quality….its a rust bucket, with sub par stability and horrible electricals. It’s ok to own in India as people often go to the road side mechanics and parts are available in plenty…but anywhere else, I will completely avoid this machine. To add to the woes, the tires are tubed which is a nightmare to fix in case of a puncture. The service network is barely existing. People might buy these probably because of the price or the looks.. and then starts the remorse journey. Thanks to the paid promotions, there are zillions of videos by reviewers, but they are all just reading a script which is not really honest.
@mgnbukint65022 ай бұрын
But add the cost of transport from India, dleivery form the distributor to your dealer and local taxes and they cost what they cost over here. Price in India is largely irrelevant if you want to buy one in the UK. Prices quoted for the US in dollars are often lower than UK prices in pound, so superficially you might think that US buyers get a better deal - the big difference is that the UK prices are "all in" where the US prices are "ex-distributor" so don't include delivery to the dealer, dealer prep charges & local taxes - "Out of the door" prices there end up up to 50% more than the basic price that is shown in adverts. The only price that matters is the on the road cost in your country in comaprison with like bikes in your country. Below par in long term quality ? Where do you get that idea ? Mine is 5/15 year old 14K miles & still largely looks like it did when it left the showroom. No reliabilty issues, no electrical issues (still on the original battery) and low running costs. Been riding on tubed tyres for 48 years & had maybe 4 or 5 punctures - maybe a problem where you live but not for most. Service network in the UK is fine (choice of 3 dealers within a 20 mile radius, not had any issues getting service parts). Finish is no better and no worse than the Honda NC750S I p/xed to get the RE. No "buyers remorse" here - I would buy the same bike again tomorrow if anything happened to mine. And no KZbin "influencers" got to me - I bought mine as soon as it became available on the back of a test ride - the only way to be certain that the bike is for you.
