Just a comment, back in the late sixties, seventies and early eighties British Rail tried to make Castle Cary the main Somerset station for trains to London with carriage sidings for direct services. I believe it ran for a few years till Templecombe reopened thus taking what little commuter there was back then. Today different story with London trains running from Yeovil Pen mill to Yeovil Junction then Waterloo and strangely not Castle Cary and then Paddington.
@yeovilcentralmainline23072 күн бұрын
I do remember that a number of West Country fast services would call at Castle Cary in the early 1970s in the morning and evening for the business traveller and your comment answers the question as to why there were a large number of sidings to the east, thank you.

I've several with sound, Hornby TTS, not that great but things have improved dramatically over the last few years so may go with a Jamie Goodwin sound file for the class 33's at some point now that you can fit decent speakers in a class 33!
@stretchedits6 күн бұрын
@yeovilcentralmainline2307 I have Jamie Goodman class 50 sound in my DP2, and a Rail Exclusive Baby Boomer speaker. Only thing I missed on those was a working brake button. You get one of those with Zimo decoders. Very good sound files, but missing that functionality. I don't know if the 33 fuel tank is like the 27, but DCKits did a resin replacement which was also a speaker enclosure if that helps any.

Nice session. I remember steam/diesel crossover, and all the varied liveries, though plain maroon was dominant until the blue/grey standard arrived. I lived on the old GWR Paddington Birmingham line near Solihull. Saw occasional SR steam locos on specials, then the 33s on inter regional frieghts.

Thank you for sharing past memories, always good to have first hand experience of the period, like you, I also remember the introduction of BR Blue-Grey in the mid 60s although maroon coaching stock was still around in the west country up until 1974!

It’s ironic that had they kept Yeovil Town station as a terminus during the Beeching cuts these scenes would have been quite true and would probably have saved the degeneration of Yeovil town centre as Pen mill and Yeovil Junction are some way away from the centre of Yeovil.

Just came across your layout and find it so realistic 👍🏻 The shots of the 33/1 and 4TC are superb, and the sound of the loco is possibly the best I have heard, which leads me to ask…is this a recording of the real loco or a sound file on a decoder? If the latter please can you let me know who’s it is as I have few 33/1s waiting to have sound installed! Subscribed as looking forward to future developments 🙂
@yeovilcentralmainline2307Ай бұрын
All the sound is dubbed in post-production but I will get around to installing sound decoders into a few cromptons and hydraulics next year. The best sound I came across for the Class 33s was from Jamie Goodman, supplied from 'Road and Rails', check out their selection on KZbin.
@CromptonmanАй бұрын
Thanks! No wonder that 33/1 sounds so good 😂 I have tried a couple of sound files…one from Youchoos and the other from legomanbiffo. I’m tempted to try Jamie’s, but so far I haven’t found the perfect solution.
@yeovilcentralmainline2307Ай бұрын
Yes, I know what you mean, the Class 33 Sulzer has a certain sound (especially on tick over) that can be missing from the sound files, really depends where they are recording the sound from to make the sound files.

Hi, The new link line looks really useful. I love it when layouts evolve like this, instead of junking it all and rebuilding it............Evolution like that is real life isn't it. So out of curiosity is there a special reason for the link line, some timetable requirement or did you just want to add a new link because it would be a useful addition.................Great stuff, all the best and happy modelling, Dave.

Destination panels; never know something so small to cause so much interest! Something I used to see back in the day. Mine are; 'Waterloo-Salisbury-Exeter', and reverse. Hi, is this a new intro to your videos? I like the way you split up the screen into three, each with a different video. Just out of curiosity, which period of the layout is your personal favourite, the end of steam, early Diesels and Hydraulics or BR Blue. However I still love seeing the layout no matter what is running, so thank you. All the best Dave.

This is just a refresh of my Introduction video to the channel. Funnily enough if you'd asked me that question three years ago it would be steam but now I'm firmly into the early Pre-TOPS BR Blue diesel era from around the mid 1960's to the mid 70's, a period I experienced first hand in the west country.

after many years modelling; to have a satisfying layout to operate then the devil will be in the detail. Plan well and go slowly: Good baseboard construction, good trackwork and most of all a good plan to start so that you will still have the desire to build and run it 5 years down the line, no pun intended!
