I got a light set up you can put on and remove from your trailer plugs into the truck like trailer lights. Got them at o'Reilly auto parts. They are really strong magnet lights. It's a lot cheaper than another trailer in a pinch. I can't afford a new trailer hints why I'm watching the video 😂

We didn’t. We only ended up using it one season and tried something different for the chickens so we could move them to new pasture more easily. We didn’t like that they were basically stuck in one spot for several months.

How much netting are you running off that Energizer?
@easyworkacres6 күн бұрын
So far ive used 328ft of 11 strand netting plus a 2acre single line perimeter fence at the same time and it was still hitting in the 6-7k range on power saving mode. Was running both fences for at the same time for a temporary pig and main perimeter.

How did this hold up over the year?
@easyworkacres6 күн бұрын
It held up well up until an 80mph wind storm blew through and caved in a small section on one side. Part of the issue was that it was literally standing alone in the middle of a wide open field during that storm. We did bend it back out but we ended up not using it again as a winter coop since it was hard to regularly move the chickens to new pasture with this set up. I think if it was at least up against a tree line or fence it wouldn’t have taken any damage but it stood no chance in an open field. Assuming the price hasn’t went up I still think it did pretty well given you make the modifications to sturdy it up a little.

I need to use a trash can of some kind this year, soooo I know a plastic isn’t a great option but it’s all I have. That being said - it’s also a black one so would there be a potential for mold?? Second, would it be a good or bad idea to put a black thick trash bag inside as well? Now to just figure out how to hook up a hose with pressure instead of carrying bucket by bucket to garden.
@easyworkacres21 күн бұрын
My water tote is made of food grade plastic. The black should be fine. I painted mine because the sun shining through the clear plastic would increase algae build up. You’ll still get some but having a solid color holding tank helps combat it some. I’ve also heard putting a pice of copper pipe down in the water can fight algae off but haven’t tried it yet myself. I would think the trash bag would create wet air space that then could cause mold so would probably avoid that. And you can get a bulk head for a water hose on Amazon, as long as you elevate the can enough you’ll get water pressure to the hose from gravity alone.

I’m not sure, it’ll depend on the size. But most steel barrels have a lid with a steel collar on it that you can remove.

yeah no... if you buy a car port with a much stronger frame and throw durable sheeting over it ie: 10mil with string reinforcement, that should work and is probably cheaper than buying a 2k + winter proof poly tunnel kit
@easyworkacres2 ай бұрын
This was around $150 on Amazon at the time. And maybe $50 in lumber and other materials max. It held up well up until an 80+ mph windstorm blew through and one side caved in on one of the uprights. It’s an easy fix and overall still standing but we’ve since changed how we winterize the chickens in our main coop and are planning to use this as a regular greenhouse as it’s intended for now. We still think it’s a pretty good product for the price especially with a few cheap upgrades. Thanks for watching!

It wouldn't be as fancy, but you could do essentially the same thing with cattle panels and a tarp, and the dogs would have had more space. Mighta even been cheaper too.
@easyworkacres2 ай бұрын
We actually did that with cattle panels. It worked but it was a pain in the but to move it to mow. And it didn’t look too nice either.😅 We got this for free for reviewing it but it has actually been good so far. Our dogs are never in it for more than an hour or two while their collars charge then they are free to roam the whole farm the rest of the time.

Awesome build man! Love the new roll away boxes and the hardware cloth on the floor. I thought for sure the chickens needed nesting material in the boxes (hay, hemp, straw, etc.) but looks like they lay eggs directly on the hardware cloth with out you having to replace messy nests. Do you keep the bottom totally open in the cold winter months as well? I heard you say you tarp the sides but curious about the bottom for draft
@MtnDru2 ай бұрын
Just watched your winterize the coop video! Hay bailes under the nest box to reduce drafts. Now if you could figure out a way to prevent the eggs and water from freezing if you’re out of town for some reason
@easyworkacres2 ай бұрын
Thanks, this whole set up has done pretty well for us! In the winter time I buy hay bales and stack them up around the base of the coop and it helps a ton in holding in heat in the coop and blocking out wind. I move the coop a little less frequently in the winter time since it’s a bigger job with the hay bales but they do great. We are adding additional fencing so to give them more space so that should really help this winter too with them not being moved as much.
@easyworkacres2 ай бұрын
You can see in the the beginning of this video as well a plastic wrap I build around their water system that acts like a greenhouse and helps keep their water from freezing. That helps keep the water about 10 degrees above whatever the air temp is so it helps until it gets down to 25 degrees or less outside.

Been using this for decades so not a new idea you just stumbled upon it. You will have to clean the jet port out periodically from algae buildup in the water line..

I never assume I’m the first at anything.😂 never even touched a chicken before 2020. And yes I’ve had to clear the connection between hose to float valve twice in the last year from random blockages. Someone said throwing some copper pipe in my barrels will help combat algae build up in general though so I’m gonna give that a try and see if it works. Thanks for watching!

@easyworkacres3 ай бұрын
I use it mostly for pullets and it’s not too high for them. You could always trim the side walls down some to what you need though. I think if you were to trim it down it’d be better to use a cheap plastic oil pan rather than this rubber pan. The rubber pan might lose some of its rigidness ones the sidewalls are cut.
