My friend Steve had his birthday last week so I named a rooster after him. A young promising cream legbar, a fine bird. Steve the human just gave me a puzzled look. 😂

Our main roosters and a few trouble maker hens are the only named ones we have.😂

My name is Judy, and I want all the chickens. I have to constantly wait for him to build more coops. More. I need more.

If someone doesn't have adequate time, they shouldn't have ANY animal.

Well in this case its informing people that already have time for their current flock but might not realize the time consumption of increasing a flock size.😅 But agree, make sure you have time in the first place before ever taking on an animal.

I think your math is off, laying hens at the most consume .3lbs of feed per day, not 1.5lbs. Our flock typically averages even less in the warm months or when we get malted grain from the local brewery.

I meant 1.5lbs per week, not per day, must’ve misspoke.😅 Thanks for pointing that out and thank you for watching!

I’m thinking of starting a chicken coop and I am doing my research first. Going with egg layer hens first. So I really appreciate the information. I do have a question. What is the best option or product for treating fowl harming bugs that you have found that works best for the money? Also what to avoid? I know a few things can harm the chicks lungs so I want to be as safe as possible.

The best natural pest deterrent for us is DE (Diatomaceous Earth) it can be harmful to lungs if breathed in but it is food grade and edible. As long as you are safe about applying it to the coop and not letting it blow in the chickens faces while applying it is perfectly safe and many people use it. There are other natural remedies out there but very few actually have solid backing at being effective. We’ve attempted using garlic powder in feed but that can be expensive if you don’t grow a bunch of garlic on your own to provide in your chickens feed.
