With the way the Government here in australia absolutely makes life hell for small business owners it’s move like 4 times. There is no value in building anything and sure doesn’t end up in the pockets of builders or trades either. Then to sweeten the deal the government has a budget of $2b to do a project. Spends $7b and then pays people $150k a year to sweep up. Which makes the labour market in trades actual bullshit cause everybody thinks they are worth monopoly money. Broken. It’s all broken!

I mean cost him 1500 for material and labor charges 3000 then you get around 25% taken out depending on what state your in which leaves you at 2250..the 1500 to cover material and pay your guys..that leaves you with 750.. not like he pockets 3000

This is an absurd ideology since when did providing a service, double the price of actual production of the service. This is a scam, a ripoff, and nobody should be paying these absorbently high prices.

It would be foolish not making at least a little profit from supplies, maintenance and insurance. You gotta start at a 100% markup in order to leave room for mistakes, discounts, issues, etc. most of that extra youre making isnt profit either as a lot gets reinvested back into the business. If my cost for supplies for my moving company for example is $125 on a job, im charging $250. $100 pf that markup is going toward the next restock of supplies and the rest is going toward other expenses like marketing. You gotta leave room for compromises too with the client so you dont accidentally bust on the job. This is business 101.

I’m a contractor , He’s talking about higher end homes it doesn’t cost 3k for a 10x10 bedroom, it’s just an example. But anyway this isn’t greedy it’s business. I pay my guys $30 /hr and it cost me 45/hr with insurance, PTO, car payments, ect. so I charge 65-80/hr to the customer and today I completed my 2,891 job. Take what it costs, then add what you need to make in the time it'll take to do it, and add 30-50% in case stuff doesn't go right. Stuff goes right, instead of pocketing the extra 30-50%, give it to your workers as a thank you for the job running smooth, reminding em you charge extra in case they F up, but they keep it if they don't F up.
