Excellent Video! I would like to know if it’s possible to view someone’s workload when they are working on multiple projects simultaneously. Does Teams have this feature?
@SenseiPPM
@SenseiPPM Ай бұрын
Thank you for watching our video! Microsoft Teams is intended to be a collaboration tool, allowing people working on a project to have a channel assigned to the project to track project related activities. It is not a work management tool. However, Sensei IQ as a Project and Portfolio management tool provides work management capabilities allowing you to track workload across multiple projects executed in the execution tool of choice.

How do you access the baseline data once it is set?
@SenseiPPM

A P3 license is required to create and access a baseline. Once a baseline is created, if you click on the baseline button again you will see the how the current baseline aligns with a previous baseline. Remember you are not able to update a baseline and can only create one baseline.

@@adamb7230 Sure. From a project management perspective, we recommend tracking deliverables separately and assigning ownership to someone on the team to status that deliverable. The actual document (proof copy or design) would typically live in the project's SharePoint Document Library where you have the standard Office and SharePoint functionality of reviewing, commenting, setting alerts, adding approvals, etc.

Also, what does one do if they do not see their MS Project on the drop down list to bring into Teams, but all members of the Team are members of the MS Project as well? It's possible that the team doesn't have a license in place. Trying having them go to project.microsoft.com and see if they can access Project for the web. If they can, then they should be able to see your project under 'Shared with me'. Another thing you can confirm is that within your project, when you click on 'Group Members' in the upper right-hand corner, you see the names of the team members listed. 🙂

Usually, KZbin videos show "how" to create the link, but I find that videos about MS Project Online to Teams integration all stop at showing "that" it can be done. Adding a tab in Teams that points to a URL is easy. But the real question is how to set up the MS Project Online side. That is what I searched for, but did not find in your video. In fact, I watched several videos on this topic. They all explain parts of it. Some explain how to publish a desktop project file to Online; others how to link a Teams tab to an existing SharePoint site for an individual project. Yet nobody seems to clearly explain how all of these building blocks tie together and how to set them up. For example, to publish an MS Project schedule to Teams, do I actually need a project site, or will the overarching PWA site do? Any video explaining an A-to-Z process would probably be shared a lot in the project management community, with the comment "finally somebody explains it well". Just saying ;-)

In Microsoft Project for the web, very few users should need a P5 license. See: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/servicedescriptions/project-online-service-description/project-web-service-description. If you're talking about the extensibility in PowerApps on top of 'Work Management' with Project for the web to provide additional features around 'Project Management', 'Program/Portfolio Management', 'Resource Management' and 'Strategy', you can either build your own or look at options like Sensei IQ: www.senseiiq.com.

I've found Project for the Web limiting due to the 500 line restriction, but now that that limit has been extended to 1000, and when considering some of the functions like checklists, I'm beginning to think that what's "limiting" is just my reliance on old practices based in long term use of the desktop app, instead of considering ways to evolve my workflow.

I absolutely 100% hate Groups. They have cause so much confusion since they started and it is clunky. While I love that you can "create" approvals and integrate to Power BI, this can cause more development of the app vs doing the project. This was a great video, but I think we will stick with Jira or Asana.
@SenseiPPM
@SenseiPPM Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your candid feedback. At Sensei, we believe that the actual features and benefits of MS Groups haven't been communicated very well. The portion we like about it is that it puts the infrastructure in place behind the scenes, including the SharePoint Team Site with Document Library, Team Calendar, e-mail address for the project, OneNote, access permissions, etc. What about Project for the web itself? Have you had a chance to use it? How does it compare to Jira and Asana?
@cybermonkey7738
@cybermonkey7738 Жыл бұрын
@@SenseiPPM I have used all of those tools, including OneNote. As a big Microsoft contributor, I love the potential of these apps and their wide portfolio. Unfortunately, this is also their issue. It is like technology ADHD. Microsoft cannot seem to make up its mind on things. We have Sharepoint groups, but then there is Yammer. Then we have Teams and then Kaizala. Then Planner and ToDo and then there is Project. Now Loop is coming in and it is very close to OneNote. Things are scattered. Then you have sync issues with tools like OneNote, which can be a nightmare. I have used Project Online, but it is cumbersome and clunky. Jira and Asana are very fluid applications and you spend more time doing projects than “setup”. I do use OneDrive with Asana, but we keep all documents in Asana. When you are working with outside partners, Asana and Jira are easy to setup over the Microsoft offering. In Short, I love the potential of Microsoft, but most companies I have talked to have moved on to greener pastures.

We do a lot of our project planning by percentages: we expect a PM will be needed for 25% of the time thru the duration of the project; a Developer will be expected to spend 10% of their time on a given task; etc. Does Project on the Web handle this kind of planning? Or, can the planning be done in Project Desktop, then imported (and updated) to Project on the Web?
@SenseiPPM
@SenseiPPM Жыл бұрын
Short answer is that Project for the web doesn't yet offer planning by percentage. However, at Sensei we don't think that's a big deal because most organizations need to plan work across multiple work management tools, anyways, so we've separate it out into a separate module. Check out the video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHS4mIWrqdV7gaM

Microsoft Project for the web allows you to either create a new group or use an existing M365 Group, but it sounds like you already know that! 🙂 At Sensei, we've created an automation that uses these groups to put the infrastructure in place inside of Microsoft Teams so that you have a dedicated Channel to manage the project. If this is something your organization would like to explore, please see www.senseiprojectsolutions.com/senseiiq/
