didn't work at first, but then switched back to Classic Outlook and it worked.

It is a bug, today I tried to setup a new email and encountered the error. I then setup an existing email inside our organization and worked, when I got into Outlook, I disabled the new Outlook and brought back the old one, then proceeded to add the new email and worked.

I did exactly as suggested here, I changed the email address for my MS 365 Business Basic address. I did this out of desperation despite knowing the real reason it doesn't work in the new Outlook: Microsoft want me to upgrade my licence and pay more. Anyway - as expected, this solution didn't work. As soon as I changed it, then attempted to connect that account in new Outlook, it authenticates me fine, then says "This account cannot be added. The licence provided by your work or school does not enable access to Outlook for Windows. Please access your email through Outlook on the web instead". It couldn't be clearer. This isn't a bug. It's a design decision by Microsoft. You need to remove this video because really it's misleading. I suspect you are doing it for clicks? We knew about this problem back in 2023 and there's been a lot of info online about it... this video is NOT a solution to that problem at all.

I'm an email admin. I got an employee with this issue. He uses MacOS and works from home. He got a similar message: "This account cannot be added. The license provided by your work or school does not enable access to Outlook for Mac. Please use your email through Outlook on the web instead." He contacted MS support. They blame the IT admin (ie. me) placed a restriction on his work account. He asked me to check for any restrictions. I know nothing about restrictions on 365 admin that blocks access to user mailbox from Outlook for MacOS. Told him that this issue is on the client's side (his Mac or Outlook). Hours later, he told me the problem was resolved by switching back to old/legacy Outlook to add his mailbox. He can then switch to New Outlook. Microsoft has been releasing unfinished products with bugs lately. I changed nothing on the server side (365 or Exchange admin) to fix the problem.

Thanks for this suggestion, it worked for me too buying a US number and I finally could receive a call with the code! By the way I am in a country that was in the list but still calls and sms for my numbers didn't work and no code from the authentication app was accepted, very frustrating, I guess they need to fix this

I'm from Indonesia, but why do I have to use an authenticator... even though Indonesia isn't on the list of countries that can use an authenticator code. 🙏🙏
