No sealer between the two rope seal joints? Let’s hope it doesn’t leak man. Hopefully those Mercedes rope seals have some asbestos in them.

Just found this video in the process of potentially getting an 80 series with a 1hz (unknown KMs on engine but the chassis is over 580,000kms) Once you tare them down they're pretty simple. great video

Nice build ! good way to get some extra inches ! , I know you've probably tried this but do you offset the joint in the seal so they don't line up with the parting line in the cap , what the parts cost ? bout 8 grand ?

Great series guys. I love these old crossflows. We used to play with them a lot back in the day. I still have a couple stashed away for nostalgia. Pardon my ignorance and I have great respect for your knowledge, I cannot recall, but aren't you suppose to offset the rear main seal to prevent leakage at the flush sections ? One part of the seal should sit deeper in the groove while the other side sticks out to eliminate potential leakage across the seam. This is what I've seen from other engine builders.

Had 5 turbo Subarus and the only engine I ever lost was all my fault running uncontrolled boost on a dirt rallycross style event. Hammered my EJ207 in my bugeye STi for countless club motorsport supersprints and open track days at 20+ psi without a problem. Pulled it out to put in a built EJ257 built by Michael South 10+ years ago and still running as well as when it was first tuned. Some people make em work, some can’t.
