This seems like an overcomplicated way to build a door! .

My brother in law did an apprenticeship with British waterways in the 50s and 60s. Oak gates, every evening his cutting tools were taken to be sharpened, including a chisel 10 ft long with an 18" wide blade for face trimming gates from the top.

Great video but far too fast have you got a slower one?

I took my grandson to the workshop at Stanley last years 'open day' and he loved it. Such a shame they don't do it more often, he's driving me mad for another visit!

I was fishing on the canal two nights ago and watched an otter fish. About 1am. No pooh, just the otter! The otter was indeed very shy and swam off as soon as he noticed me. Brilliant to see.

Would love to see a more in depth video explaining the processes of making a pair of lock gates. Thanks for showing this one anyway, it was VERY interesting.

Great idea but doesn't actually show what an otter spraint looks like! I'm guessing (but not everyone else would) that spraint is a dropping but my chances of identifying one for myself are hardly helped when all the video shows is a bloke leaning over a block of stone under a bridge; How do I tell whether that small blob to which he is apparently referring is not left by a duck or other waterbird?

Nice film, at least it shows navigation which seems to be left out of other CRT advertising. Laurence Hogg

The Canal & River Trust will be amazing. A chance for us all to have a input with looking after the beautiful wildlife and heritage we have in England & Wales.

British Waterways are doing everything possible to keep the canal open, except maintain the locks and banks properly so that they do not leak!
