One of the few grand slams tournament that Maria had participate throughout her career where I think she could've won if her final opponent was someone else that isnt Serena Williams. She could have won a few more slams for sure, particularly when she played at the higher level of a Grand Slam like a true champion she is, and some of the Slams tournament she should have won other than this one were: 2005 Aus Open (She would have won the final against Davenport, considering their overall h2h is 5-1 and the next meeting between the two occured just a few weeks after the AUS OPEN, where she won in the final in three tight sets- I think it was in Tokyo. Wimbledon 2005- Poor thing had to deal with a resurgent Venus Williams in the SF, where Venus is undoubtedly the 2nd best player/ toughest player to beat after her own sister, she is also a 5x Wimbledon champion which means also Venus became two of the biggest threats to become a champion at Wimbledon during this 2000-2010 period. Had she advances into the final, again her final opponent would be the veteran Lindsay Davenport whom she defeated the previous in the sf, their first match together. 2006 Wimbledon I might not be too sure about this, but I believe this tournament was the turning point where Maria finally managed to stepped up her game and showing another level of grit and determination when she was up against Flavia Penneta in the 4th/QF and then the eventual champion Amelie Mauresmo, although she lost to her in the SF. That defeat was a positive learning experience for her, as she went on to reach her top form over the next few months starting from the US tennis tournament series and then winning the US OPEN in spectacular fashion with her outstanding attack of play and aggressive serving(this would be her very last Slam where the serve was working extremely well, which became the main key behind her victory and the heartbreaking defeat against none other than Justine Henin. 2007 Australian Open- Hey, Serena Williams had us gasping for air with such a breathtaking performance in the final against Maria. Need me to say more? Against anyone else, Maria would have won this tournament. Shahar Peer? Younger Vaidisova? Up and coming but the older Jelena Jankovic? Meeting her in the final where she could've possibly face one of these three players in the bottom half of the draw, or maybe Nadia Petrova as well.. i have a great feeling that all the other players in the bottom half except Serena, were no match for her. It's possible to think that at their very best, the most likely can happen from the defeat is a three sets match against Petrova or Vaidisova. She completely outplayed Kim Clijsters in the SF stage, winning in straight sets despite not being at the top level she was like in Us Open 2006. 2010 Wimbledon- This tournament marked a special moment, where despite her struggling with shoulder injury that hampered her serve, she went all out and was able to stay for quite a while against Serena Williams. It was a straight sets win, but this 4th round match between the two was the tightest contest Serena had in those year's tournament. No other player other than Maria had managed to win more points in their respective match against Serena, percentage of serving points won, total games won etc. And Serena faced some stiff competition too, against Na Li, Kvitova and Vera Zvonareva in the final. Maria would have been facing defeat in the hands of Na Li, Kvitova, but all her defeats against these two were when she wasn't playing at such higher level in a while. She was still rediscovering her strength and redefining her formula to achieve success in 2010 and 2011, although she started to slowly find her rhythm and feel more comfortable playing against those champions starting with her 2010 FO Match vs Henin. But, she still wouldnt win Roland Garros if she beats Henin because Serena was in the same draw, Stosur was in sublime form too. 2011 Roland Garros- Sublime form during the clay season. Marking as the start of her dominance period playing on clay courts, but I believe she was outplayed by Na Li in the SF. Na Li is not truly a clay court specialist, but she was just able to be in her top form that year. Which doesn't make it impossible to win a clay court grand slam, if the timing and preparation is right. Maria had been outclassed by Na Li's tactical strategy,and her level of execution.It took her a while after this match she was beginning to find a way to break Na Li's game and defeated her several more times after this match. 2013 Australian Open - Na Li again managed to stop Maria who was showing a tremendous level of form that year. 2013 French Open- Serena Williams had her best seasons on tour if we look by the statistics during this season. Need i say more? 2015 Wimbledon 2016 Aus Open- Kerber could have prevailed, but there is still a slight chance Maria would still take this one. 2010 Wimbledon Her serve
