those kind of sand comps also used fence gates in some builds(funny side note you can lag a server hardcore if you run it and just keep placing sand lol XD). i was a cannon designer a long time ago. built the whole variety pack of them.

You have just put into words what i have been thinking of it for the longest time! Whenever i imagined yself doing a "Minecraft but", i never pictured some weird OP-stuff or any of the whacky scripted stuff, i just pictured it being me playing regularMinecraft, but i'm a noob, effectively going back to the old days when we didn't have (insert faked Minecraft content here) and we just played the game and shared our experiences, or something less attention-grabby. Imagine for once NOT getting that super-size build in a Hardcore world and instead watching a legitimate adventure unfold, even with an actual bad end, unlike the many ongoing hardcore worlds out there. (i know what i just referred isn't the same, but it essentially shares the same problem)

Cmon man Tapl did the trend so well, so what if his variations removed most difficulty he made up for it with the pvp element because both players got access to the op change which made it interesting. Tapl was never about survival minecraft so it was basically a different genera i guess though.

This is why I believe my favorite challenge run I did was trying to beat Minecraft using the Origins mod as every class. As an Elytrian, you have an elytra permanently glued to your back, in addition to having an action skill that launches you thirty blocks into the air. As good as Elytrian may be in open areas, they are nearly usless in enclosed spaces. Being in an area with a low roof for too long will cause you to be smacked with a plethora of debuffs that only become worse the longer you stay. You also cannot wear "Heavy Armor" (anything stronger than chain mail) so getting armor will look a lot different than a normal playthrough. These changes almost completely changed the playthrough in ways I didn't expect. Very glad I tried it.

Only difference is that instead of focusing on “haha, op, haha, one block with all items” Terraria’s version of the trend went from “What if I use this niche subclass only?” to “I play as 1 modded class/with 1 major mod and that’s it”, and they always have the term “Full Movie” in the title. Also, Craftee used to be ParkerGames and the change is so major YOU CAN’T TELL THAT THEY’RE THE SAME PERSON.

a good example of a creator that made an actually good version of the one block... thing, is Neurotic Goose. with his Beating Minecraft's Hardest Modpack With Nothing. and he really does have NOTHING at the start, not even the starting block really. he had to use the dirt from gravestone that spawns on the void whenever he falls into said void.
