bruh it's a metal slug game that lasts like less than an hour, we dont need a whole review in your description, even as a kid i knew the point of these games is to just shoot the hell out of everything and move on. it's an arcade quarter eater game not a study in game design 🏴☠️

12:08 -- I'll never forget the first time I played this game and after slogging through this ridiculously hard final mission and defeating the Dai-Manji, I thought it was over. When the Rugname came down, I literally said aloud, "You have *GOT* to be kidding me!" And then when I finally beat it, I got one of my most fond belly laughs out of a video game when General Morden, hung up on the prisoner rack, face-planted after landing upright.

I don't mind them adding an element of challenge by playing with the architecture of the ship... but did they really have to make it so your character was repeatedly hidden by the scenery? Nowhere else in the Metal Slug series can this brand of chicanery be seen

Hey, I've been wondering about this since forever, why does the melee animation change regularly in this stage? As in, sometimes it's just regular knifing, other times it's these spring glove/h2h animations, and it's not even random apparently since the enemies on which the latter are performed on seem to always be the same specific ones. Finally, I could swear I didn't see them performed anywhere else in the game (and even if they were I bet they'd be still on specific enemies or at specific locations), so what gives?

There are certain spots in the game (not just on this stage; activating the train's levers in Mission 3, and Mission 6's wavy bridge also does this, for example) where the character will do their alternate melee attack; the males kick while standing up and use a punching glove when crouching, and Eri will do some pretty cool kicks, while Fio will push the enemies with her arms. These alternate melee hits do the same damage as a regular melee (3HP), but prevent the character from moving, so it's a straight downgrade from a gameplay perspective. One way to avoid performing them is to melee the enemies while in the air. I think, specifically for the PS1 port of Metal Slug X, instead of replacing the standard knife attack, the males instead do the standing kick/crouching punch _in addition_ to the standard knife melee, resulting in double damage on these specific alternate melee spots. Starting from Metal Slug 6, these alternate melee attacks can be manually performed by holding the Special button and then pressing the Attack button.

@@shinkiro403 It just happens at specific places, like most of Mission 2-3, kicking the train's lever in Mission 3, and the wavy bridge at Mission 6-1.
You know what this mission needed? One minor change to make it look a bot more interesting? Rebel army POWs.

This is because Venutians either killed or mind controlled humans to make them figth you, they had no other use for them, but Martians are different because Venusians EAT THEM, more than POWs, they were food waiting to be eaten

I ngl was pissed back in the day that the Rebel soldiers in the first portion are pretty useless outside of those who wielded miniguns lol. The regular infantry just throws grenades. Some are shown to parachute down with rocket launchers but they don't even use them. Hell, they even paradropped tanks lol
X feels exactly the same to me as 2. I actually think i prefer 2 though cuz it's prettier and the changes they did make all felt very unnecessary. Especially the new weapons which are all just awful.
