Should you wash/rinse your apples before storing them?

I live in Northern Michigan, we have several trees that have small apples that fit your description. My Dad always called them snow apples, even 30 years ago! Best tasting apples I've ever had, like a cross between Granny Smith and Honey Crisp!

"Appledom" has decided in favor of the growers, shippers, and retailers. Big, hard, crisp apples ship and store better than Jonathans and look better on store shelves. Most people have probably never tasted a Jonathan and it's a shame as they really are better than the Fuji and Gala rocks at WalMart. The same has happened to strawberries. I'm guessing that most people don't know that strawberries aren't supposed to be white on the inside and hard as a hockey puck with similar flavor. Good strawberries have become almost impossible to find nowadays. Jonathan apples are going the same way unfortunately. I found some yesterday at a small outlet and boy are they great!

My favorite apple since I was a kid in Michigan but has become rare. Now retired in NH and I'm so happy to find it at Gould Hill Farm in Contoocook.

Very nice video thank you! I am however, a bit surprised that your tomatoes are low to the ground when those varieties normally are taller than 6 feet. Did you cut them down or what is your method to keep them low and productive!

My experience is that orange pippin really needs 2-4 weeks after picking to develop the sweetness, maybe that isn't desirable to some though? it does change in flavour a lot.

I agree not yet ripe apples are very bitter 😖. I thought I could leave them out for a while to ripen - but apparently that doesn’t work. I’m returning the whole bag for a refund! I’ve never done that before, but it’s the principle. …and fruit is not cheap!

I love your videos and they frustrate me at the same time. The thing is, you discuss so many interesting breeds, some of which I had never heard of, and I want to go out right away and get some. This snow sweet is a perfect example. But everywhere I look they have the same 8 or 10 varieties, maximum, and I just can't get the lesser known varieties. But enjoyable to watch and learn anyway.

What about judging by the average sound of your apples due to a light flick or in reference to the sound of a ripe one you flicked?

I'm so glad I found this series and your videos. I have a 7 yo honey crisp. It's a dwarf variety I don't know what stock it's on. It is the only tree that survived the rabbit attach on my orchard I had planted in 2017. I have a nice crop of apples this year, better than last years the fruit are fewer and the fruit is bigger. This year I did help the tree a bit by checking and dropping the fruit that was weak around the king. It also did it's own eliminating. I'm hoping to find videos on your channel about when and what to prune during the dormant season. I have pruned every year but am still learning. Thanks again for a great series. I hope you have one on pruning...

And if I was anywhere near IA, I would visit! You carry all of my favorites: McIntosh, Ida Red, Rome Beauty, and Jonathan! Now I'll have to grow some of my own... At least now I know how to pick the Rome Beauty at the orchard up the road. Yay!

While trying to mow down out of control Blackberries I found a tree approximately 3 foot tall which I believe is a crabapple. Is there an information source to know for sure?

Somehow I had previously missed this one. SO SO AMAZING. I once saw her speak when the Moroccan book was re released. Stunning. My hero for sure.

hi...heres hoping you still read these comments...question. once you created your scaffolding and then plan there forward to have laterals produce fruit, are you boxing in a limited time frame as to how many years the laterals willl grow and produce fruit before they then become mature wood that conflicts with the scaffold?

Grew up in Nebraska, and made the annual pilgrimage to Nebraska City and its Arbor Day Lodge, and surrounding apple orchards. They were heavy on Jonathan, and the Johnathan apples there were tremendous. That is definitely THE apple I compare all others to.

Thank you! Finally, someone who gets to the point and is thorough. Only thing, how big it gets and any pest or disease issues. I planted three or four of these along with Dorset and Anna and hope all goes well. Pink Lady bloomed this year, but only put on a few fruits that yellowed and fell off. I think the trees are too young. (2nd and 3rd season) May I please borrow your explanation of what a Pink Lady is for my channel when I talk about my Pink Lady? I mean, you nailed it. Thanks!

It took about 4 years to get apples on my tree. It’s a healthy tree with no issues with fire blight. Biggest problem are critters pulling off the immature fruit. My husband says these critters are suffering from a deficiency of lead! He is aiming to solve that problem!
