I never knew this came out as a kit. I just got one printed out.

People keep comparing the main guns, but the Macross probably wouldn't even use it. The Macross is a stand-off carrier that attacks with fighter swarms (armed with nukes if need be) that only uses the main cannon in desperation or against targets that absolutely require it. I think it kinda comes down to the fact that the Macross is much much MUCH bigger and carries hundreds of 'variable-configuration' fighters that are impossibly nimble compared to the small number of more realistic fighters the Yamato carries. The Yamato will try to close to main gun range (the turrets not the wave-motion gun) and get swarmed. At that point it becomes a question of whether they can fire the Wave-Motion Gun before the Valkyries obliterate it and, if they do, whether the Macross' shield can withstand it (it's theoretically impenetrable and just overloads and destroys everything around it if something too strong hits it but the Wave-Motion Gun is probably stronger than anything the Macross' shield has ever been hit with). Either way, the Yamato won't survive, since the Valkyries will absolutely keep tearing it apart even if the Macross goes down. The Macross might not survive either, but it at least has a chance and the Yamato does not.

1978 uses "Yamato Sleeps under the setting Sun" to give it that really powerful "This is the Ship that will completely annihilate you if you get in our way" Vibe Whereas 2018 uses "Pioneering Yamato" to remind you that Yamato can, and will, do cool shit to fuck you up lmao

Should be noted that the main reason they tried something so utterly bonkers as this was that a earlier shot from Battle Galaxy had managed to disable both Quarter's and Battle Frontier's main guns.
