SPL is known for supplying high quality professional recording equipment to sound studious .its only been in the last 5 to10 years that they have attempted to appeal to a wider audience , their performer amp series being one of those products . everything they make is geared toward neutrality as that is what professional sound engineers need . as to pricing , one has to consider that the Made In Germany tag comes with a high cost due to much higher labor and production costs . German companies are legally responsible for paying a certain portion of the employees health care , conforming to strict safety standards , using high quality components and the taxes . Germany has tax that taxes the tax. considering all of the above it's amazing they can seek at the price they do.

I'm using the RNHP amp paired with a set of Neumann NDH20 headphones for live mixing. The clarity is much improved over anything else I have tried, and the Neumann headphones block out most extraneous noises. The sound with this particular setup has a lot of depth and clarity, and I can now hear the true warmth and richness of my Lexicon PCM Reverb, and a lot of other detail I had been missing. I've tried all the Neve inputs directly from the headphone out on my mixer, and I definitely prefer the balanced XLRs. The 3.5mm unbalanced input works fine as well and produces much more volume, but can sound harsh in certain frequency ranges and is not as warm sounding to my ears as the balanced inputs. I love this compact amp/headphone setup for live mixing and monitoring, and wish it had been available a long time ago!

I heard my Diana TC paired with the WA23 Luna, last week, at a Woo Audio / Schiit sponsored event in San Jose. It blew my mind who good it sounded. Gobs and deep and powerful bass. I'm wondering if the WA22 would give me a similar experience, as the WA23 is the price of a used car.

I did have the Denon untill few days ago. Sold it just to buy me something bigger. That is it. It is a very good headphone. Couldn't hear any difference in comparison to the Hifiman HE1000 stealth, beside the sound stage and the planar is much more comfortable. Big plus for the Denon from me.

I really thought hard about Focal, especially the Radiance but I just cannot get over Focal's quality control problems and especially the way they handle it. Who wants to spent one or even two thousand € or $ (or even more) and then just randomly loose nearly all that value (sometimes even after a short period of time and not much use) just because Focal doesn't take care of their customers when a longtime known issue (crack of the headbands) occurs? I just don't understand how that cannot be part of the guarantee... that's just a crazy way of dealing with customers buying expensive headphones from them - taking care of them those headphones should last AT LEAST a few years - in ANY case, not just if you're lucky... And not only not giving a guarantee on those headbands but also charging your customers insane amounts of money for repairing those (somewhere between the value of a new Elegia and a Celestee) is just insulting to those who put their money and faith in them... Anyway, I really wanted to get a Focal, now I have to focus on something different. :(

I just swapped my Asgard 3 out for a Jotunheim 2 after only around 6 months or so with the Asgard 3. I use a Bifrost 2/64 DAC which I have had maybe 4 months, and that DAC is insanely good. I had a Hifiman Sundara as my main pair at the time, with a DT 700 Pro X for a closed back option. However I had no idea I'd find a sale on Focal headphones and buy a Radiance and a Clear MG for less than what 1 of those normally costs, and I must say, both these pairs are insane. Single Ended on the Asgard 3 was fine, but I wanted to try Balanced out and I'd also heard the the Jotunheim is a better pick for people who love bass, which I do. Basically, yes. Anyone who loves bass, and has Focal headphones I think the Jotunheim 2 is the better pick, both SE and Balanced sound better to me, a little bit more detailed, but also far more thumpy and enjoyable, gaming is also far more exciting. I also personally think the SE output sounded noticeably better than the Asgard 3 despite some people saying it's technically worse. I've heard the peeps at Schiit Audio say that the Magnius sounds worse SE than a Magni, but nobody as far as I know at Schiit Audio has ever stated this between a Jotunheim 2 and Asgard 3. I think even though the SE on the Jot is half the power of an Asgard 3 it would be worse, but to me it still had all of what made the Jot sound good, you'd just have to crank the volume up louder. For these reasons, if you're listening to bass heavy music, love bass, play games with them too, then just get the Jot and don't look back, the Asgard 3's issue is it may leave some customers wishing they got the slightly better Amp, which is exactly what happened to me. If you want Balanced obviously it's automatically the Jot 2 since the Asgard 3 has no Balanced.

Hello Marcello, thanks a lot for this great review I just found! Actually, I’m thinking of replacing my Hifiman Ananda with the Aeolus but note you don’t really recommend them for classical music (what I listen to most together with jazz) and instead prefer the Ananda! Could you please expand on that? I recently bought a Naim Atom Uniti HE and although quite satisfied with the Ananda, was thinking of upgrading my headphones to exploit all the Naim’s potential. Many thanks in advance for your advice/ suggestions. Greetings from Brussels, Ignacio

I just got Lokius and got a few issues need your experience. 1. Hum and noise Mabook --- (usb) --> Bifrost --- (rca to balance) --> Lokius --- (balance to rca) --> Valhalla --> HD650 With the connection model above. If Lokius is set to Bypass mode, everything is normal. If Lokius is set to EQ mode, even though the knobs are at 12 o'clock, the sound heard on the HD650 is very very very hum and noise, the level worsens over time 2. Volume decrease Mabook --- (usb) --> Bifrost --- (rca to balance) --> Lokius --- (rca to rca) --> Valhalla --> HD650 With the connection model above. No hum, no noise, BUT even though I leave the knobs at 12 o'clock. The volume when leaving Lokius in EQ mode is much smaller than in Bypass mode. Is this right? I assume that when the knobs are at 12 o'clock, the EQ and Bypass modes should sound exactly the same. Have you ever faced these problems?

Thank You for your reviews. I took the plunge on Stellia's for $2300.00 with tax and shipping band new from factory and LCD-5 open box for $2997.00 with tax and shipping. Your reviews helped me pull the trigger. I'm sticking with my REM 2/4 with the updated DAC and Headphone amps. I am boosting the basic bass shelf for now at 3 lbs for both. I have to sell some guitars and other stuff to pay for these. This is my end game for 5 years or more. I also have 2 sets of focal clear mg,s tan and black/red. DT 1990, DT1770's Arya stealths and some others. I am stopping at this but from your reviews I think I have everything I could want in headphones for now. I want the Arya organics but no more headphones please. They are easier to collect than guitars I must say. They don't take up much room.😀I use them for pleasure listening but also for mixing, mastering and tracking.

I seriously hope the entire review of this headphone wasn't done on the Topping A90. That would taint the review completely. The Topping A90 is midfi rubbish and no self respecting headphone reviewer should be reviewing $2000+ high end headphones on midfi nonsense like the A90. The A90 measures well, sure, but measurements don't equate to sound quality, this is something that the Audio Science Review (Amir) REALLY needs to learn. Sound wise the A90 is like a 5/10, and here we have 9.5/10 quality headphone being reviewed on a 5/10 amp The A90 has a flat soundstage (like just a wall of sound, but little depth or height to it, it's dynamics are gimped, it's low end is not that great. A head phone of this quality should be played on amps like: Violectric GSX-Mini Some of Burson's stuff Woo Audio Benchmark HPA4 etc. Listening to a Summit-Fi headphone like this on stuff like the Topping A90, Singxer SA-1, Jotunheim 2, etc. is not doing it justice. These are 5-6/10 amps. You wouldn't review a Ferrari after filling it up with 87 octane AM/PM gas

I use my RNHP daily, being fed by an Apogee Groove DAC / HPA. I have upgraded the stock RNHP power supply with a slightly beefier 24V/25W 1.04A psu. The sound produced by this device is stellar! I prefer it over my much more expensive equipment such as the RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition dac/hpa, SPL Phonitor SE, Topping A90D, Schiit Magni Heresy and the Schiit Jotunheim 2 hpa. It is a special piece of gear!

I can confirm radiance is powered easily by Fiio m11 plus ess. Also, thank you for reviewing on different amps, reddit will light you up if you say amps sound different. I thought the difference between a couple different ones i tried was so apparent that it wasn't even up for debate, radiance on the fiio k7 was very... sterile but tonnes of bass through the m11... idfk man ppl are weird.

I would love a pair of headphones like the Focal Radiance, Stellia, Celestee or Utopia for my daily exercise walks but it's way too expensive for me, I mostly listen to 80's/early 90's heavy metal / Hard Rock with some 80's AOR and have been racking my brain to get a good headphone for my music. I'm 41 and while I have been listening to music for all my life am quite new to the audiophile world and found out it is very expensive, I wish these companies would bring down their prices for the average consumer like myself who wants a really good listening experience but can't afford a premium price. I researched that Planar headphones are really good for detail but heard that you can't take them outside because it can ruin the headphone drivers, so I'll stick to dynamic driver headphones.

Similar listening habits to you - all genres of metal. I have the Radiance and yes they’re good however, at the time I bought them I tried a pair of Fostex TH610 and within 30 seconds I knew these were for me - just fantastic headphones for metal. Better than the Focal even. Ended up with both. So perhaps give Fostex an audition if you can.

@@chrisdarby725 Oh thank you, will definitely look into the Fostex TH610 headphone and give them a try, much appreciated, while I love the Focal headphones I've read about and saw photos on Reddit and other such forums the headbands snapping in half from gently taking them on and off as it's a design flaw from Focal's part which has me really worried, I need a replacement headphone in case this happens to me.
