Not a chance. Well a small one.. Connor will surpass him with almost certainty. And Nate is just as likely to win again as any other front runner. I bet he’s hits the 100 assists benchmark for the first time this year to join McD and Nikita. He’s on track for 98. The top guys average 2ppg in wins and only one in losses.. that’s the true measurement of the very best in the nhl…

LAST YEAR how about playoff scoring GP 74 G 41 A 67 108 PTS PPG 1.47/game. He is Top 3 McDavid, McKinnon and then Draisitle that is mount Rushmore at the moment. 97 is at 1.58 per playoff game. Not much a difference. McKinnon is at 1.29 per playoff game. Austin Martin is not even worth looking up he is less than a point a game in the playoffs

Game 34. Long post follows with base game statistics including some for the Ottawa Senators. Read, don't read, up to you. These are BASE stats not detailed ones. My comments and observations at the end. Statistics for Ottawa Senators at Edmonton Oilers December 22nd, 2024 Edmonton Oilers: Arvidsson 1 Goal, 1 Primary Assist (PP) Hyman 1 Goal (PP) Henrique 1 Goal McDavid 1 Primary Assist Draisaitl 1 Secondary Assist (PP) Janmark 1 Primary Assist Brown 1 Secondary Assist Skinner 20 Saves on 21 Shots = .952 Save %age (Excellent) Ottawa Senators: Cousins 1 Goal Ullmark 6 Saves on 7 Shots = .857 Save %age (20 minutes played) Merilainen 12 Saves on 14 Shots = .857 Save %age (36 minutes played) Senators Oilers Shots on Goal 21 21 Hits 16 11 Faceoffs Won 29 19 PP 0/1 1/5 Penalty Mins 12 4 Giveaways 13 (11 per NST) 18 (13 per NST) Takeaways 5 (2 per NST) 7 (5 per NST) Blocked Shots 6 (4 per NST) 24 (20 per NST) 3 Stars: 3-Henrique (1G), 2-Hyman (1G PP), 1-Arvidsson (1G, 1A (PP)) Player TOI PP TOI PK TOI SOG +/- PIM Hits Blocks Giveaways Takeaways Nurse 22:58 3:10 0:00 3 1 2 1 1 0 1 Bouchard 22:18 6:10 0:00 0 0 0 0 5 1 1 Ekholm 21:27 3:10 1:16 1 0 0 0 2 1 0 Kulak 19:57 0:00 0:45 0 0 0 1 4 1 0 Emberson 15:39 0:00 1:15 0 0 0 1 2 1 1 Stecher 12:06 0:00 0:43 0 1 0 1 2 0 0 Draisaitl 22:40 6:10 0:06 2 0 0 0 1 2 1 McDavid 22:39 5:52 0:07 2 0 0 0 0 1 1 Hyman 20:21 5:55 0:00 1 0 2 1 0 0 0 Arvidsson 16:52 5:31 0:00 3 0 0 1 0 1 0 Henrique 15:16 3:19 1:01 3 1 0 0 2 0 0 Podkolzin 13:13 0:00 0:46 1 0 0 2 1 2 0 C Brown 12:56 0:00 0:52 0 1 0 0 2 0 0 Perry 12:22 3:19 0:00 3 0 0 1 0 0 0 J Skinner 11:50 3:13 0:00 2 0 0 0 1 0 0 Kapanen 11:16 0:00 0:00 0 0 0 1 0 2 0 Ryan 11:05 0:00 0:00 0 0 0 1 1 0 0 Janmark 11:05 0:00 1:06 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 Oilers Faceoff Breakdown: Won Lost Percent Draisaitl 9 6 60.0 Ryan 5 3 62.5 McDavid 3 7 30.0 Podkolzin 1 1 50.0 Henrique 1 8 11.1 Perry 0 1 0.00 Janmark 0 1 0.00 Arvidsson 0 2 0.00 Senators's Faceoff Breakdown: Won Lost Percent Pinto 8 5 61.5 Norris 8 3 72.7 Giroux 6 6 50.0 Tkachuk 5 4 55.6 Greig 1 0 100.0 Guadette 1 0 100.0 Ostapchuk 0 1 0.00 Surgery still postponed so here are some stats. Again, I can't watch the games. What follows is my opinion. Arvidsson who has lit up Ottawa in the past 6 games continues that trend with a Goal and an Assist (on the PP goal). Hyman scored (the PP goal) and has scored 10 goals in his last 9 games including in 6 straight. Rico got his 3rd goal of the season (finally) though he lost a tooth during the game (from a high stick if memory serves). For Ottawa they had one goal from Cousins, unassisted. Ullmark left the game after the first period with an upper body injury and didn't return. Merilainen took over for the last 2 periods. Both goalies had identical .857 Save %ages. At the other end Stu let in one and stopped the rest for a .952 Save %age (Excellent). Stats wise, both teams same # of shots, Ottawa out hit Edmonton (not a surprise) 16 to 11, Ottawa won 10 more faceoffs (rare) 29 to 19. The Senators also took a LOT more penalties (12 minutes to 4) and gave one up on the PP. The Oilers PK kept the sheet clean. Oilers had more Giveaways (18 to 13), more Takeaways (7 to 5), and LOT more blocks (24 to 6). Ottawa was frustrated and sloppy (hence the penalties). Edmonton kept their cool. Bouch had another bad night. With LA's loss to Washington, the Oilers leap frog them and move into 2nd place in the Pacific 3 points back of Vegas who didn't play tonight. The big game is the next one after the Christmas break next Saturday when Edmonton faces LA in an important match. Take care all.

I disagree with expectations for Skinner. His team leaves him hung out there alone way too much and this definitely affects his mindset as the rushes forward are always occurring in every game wat too many times. Seems when Picard is in net the team is far more focused on giving him more support in front of net. Yes there are endless statistics but there is no way to measure his mindset when he is standing there and his forwards and defence are already heading towards opponent’s net .

Let’s not overthink it ,getting up when we win, and even then complaining about how we won . Shit happens , lots of games in last few days against good teams. 3 weeks ago we would have been overjoyed if we thought they would have won 4 of 5 of these games. Take a breath. We know we need another experienced D . Bouchard has a ton of pressure he is putting on himself to get the BIG contract and doesn’t need us pointing out those glaring mistakes he is well aware of. He will be getting support from Coffey who made horrendous mistakes when he started off. Let’s not start on him like poor Nurse gets . No wonder players hesitate to come here

I think you're right about Edmonton needing one more high performance D. When the Oilers are on fire the games score high as hell - both directions. I been looking at blocks and hits stats and the oilers don't have a player that's crushing either Statmuse has a stat, hit+block shots per game and no Oiler is in top 25. Bruins got 3 players top 25. Even with Zadorov giving away almost as many penalty minutes as he has hits

Relying on Burchard for Defense is like playing Russian Roulette, some days are good/lucky some days you windup killing you whole teams momentum . Even and Stu are making Nurse who had a decent game look reliable . These two were so bad , we forgot about Perry and Jeff Skinner This lose also came when Bob was playing as bad as Skinner, but he did made one great save to preserve the win on Leon in the 3rd on a funny bounce of the back board from a shot from Burchard, right on the sweet spot of Leon's stick and Bob made that beautiful save . That goal by Reinhart on Stu's noggin was a slap in the face. 😂

It's tough when Bouchard isn't beating goalies, in the past while he's had some prime opportunities with time to find a lane but the angle he chooses doesn't go around the goalie. One specific example in this game was when Mcdavid activated him down the right wing and Bouch basically needed to go short side quickly and it was open, but he released it right to the middle of the net/goalie. Usually he can make up for his mistakes by having such an accurate snipe

Again, I can't watch the games. What follows is my opinion. What a positively wretched game. Oh it was high scoring on both sides but the defensive collapse and the goalies inabilities to keep things out of the twine made it like a game of 5 year olds. Stats analysis: Leon had his 6th consecutive multipoint game. Hyman scored twice then took a slapshot to the face going off until he returned with a full face shield. Hyman got his 200th goal of his career in the 2nd period. Look, this one was ugly on many fronts. Too many penalties, a Bouch cough up less than 3 minutes into the game gives up a shortie, at one point the Oilers were up 4 to 2 and then boom, 3 in a row for Florida then Edmonton got one to tie it up before Verhaeghe got his 9th of the year and no more goals went in. Oilers had slightly more shots, almost half the hits, won 11 more faceoffs, got a Powerplay goal (so did Florida and they got a Shortie), everything else was pretty much a wash. Couldn't watch or listen to this one as I was at a Christmas Party. Just going from what I get afterwards. What I think is a team that didn't come to play facing one that decided to play. Take care all.

Yes everyone makes mistakes. The Bouchard giveaway on the powerplay put in place the mental blackhole we have on our defense . Secondly, the bad habits of getting caught up the ice pinching too much makes our defense lack adasical. We become complacent and learned yet another lesson of letting up and taking our foot off the gas. So happy this game happend in regular season and we keep having our egos deflated so we keep learning to play 60 minutes.

I think Oilers WERE kind of turtling, but counter attacks are just so second nature that they almost fall into high danger chances, not to discount the finishing they showed but those extra goals only took a little bit of extra offensive effort at the end after they spent a lot more effort on the defensive side.

First, Minnesota is missing several good players due to injury. So are the Oilers. Next, Leon was all over this game. His assist on the Kapanen goal was a keep away for the ages (eventually against 2 players). One Goal and Three Assists on the night. He's got 4 Goals and 6 Assists over the last 4 games. Folks that's 2.5 points per game. He leads the league in Goals and Game Winning Goals right now. He didn't do it alone. Podkolzin multipoint night. McDavid multipoint night. Bouchard (who got hurt after a late hit INTO Pickard by Hartman who should face some suspensions for it but that's a Player Safety thing so who knows) had a multipoint night too. Nurse (who has been playing some of his best hockey of late) had 2 Primary Assists for a multipoint night. We got 2 of 4 on the PP. Let in 1 of 3 on the PK. Got a shortie on another of their opportunities. Derek Ryan scored a goal (his 1st of the year). Ty Emberson got into a really good fight (and when the Oilers fight they "tend" to win) and he is from the Minnesota area so lots of his family in attendance (and he got an Assist on the Shortie too). Stecher got his 2nd goal of the season. Brown got his 4th (and it was the shortie). All 4 lines scored. Many said the Oilers would be lucky to get 2 of 4 on the 4 game swing against Tampa Bay, Minnesota, Vegas, and Florida. We won the first two (in very different ways) but with both of those games showcasing that we DO have Defense (please let Bouch just have something minimal, loosing him would be a big hit). Two more games to go. LA lost tonight to the Devils but Vegas beat Winnipeg in OT. Canucks won, Flames lost, Seattle won so while we gain ground on LA we just keep pace with Vegas. We really need to beat them to close the gap somewhat. Take care all
