One of the biggest quetsions I get from this video is where did I get the tube that I use for shotting the floats. The actual tube in the clip is glass so up until now it's been a go for us to be able to supple them. Thankfully we have managed to source some clear plastic ones that are prefect for the job. Available now Soar tackle float shotting tubes www.soartackle.co.uk/float-shotting-tube-9296-p.asp

What ever happened to just plain liquidised bread ! does all this prep really make a difference? the old adage "The angler is more patticular than the fish" would seem to apply here ive just returned to fishing after a long hiatus and am amazed how complicated its become.

Hi Phil welcome back to fishing, think we all have time away at some point. Then thankfully we find time again often once families have flown the nest. Fishing is only as complicated as you want to make it. Liquidised bread is still possibly one of the best ground baits and hook baits for sure. Prep is definitely a big part especially for competition fishing, but aside from that with people living very busy lives these days. I’m a big advocate of preparing my kit ready for the next trip even for just a pleasure fishing trip. Time spent at home tying hooks or preparing bait etc is more time on the bank fishing. 👍😊

Hi mate not sure on those as a pattern of hook. If your fancying have a go with the Hayabusa hooks. The 194 pattern I find prefect for punch and pinkie fishing. Also find for squat but they’re a wide ish gape hook. 128’s are a good rounder though know a good few canal anglers that use 128’s. Perch on the canal can’t go far wrong with 157’s 👍 Hope that’s of help Scott

Brilliant info very infornative for fishing when its really tough got match this weekend on canal will be taking your advise on board Reg l very little feed content and scents Would you fish bread crumb rather than liquidised?
@SoartackleCoUk
@SoartackleCoUk 18 күн бұрын
Hi Gary, Thank you :-). Just sat down with a brew. For me I don't like to use liquidised bread on a canal, I don't think it's fine enough. Yes I know you can bulk it out with crumb but no it's not for me. On a river carry extra water if I'm pleasure fishing for chub and the like absolutey liquidised bread. I suppose the question is why. Bread crumb is so fine that you can get it to do all maner of things in the water, like a nice visual cloud with lots of little particles falling though the water, that then lay on the bottom. Fingers crossed there are fish about, with the particles being so small hopefully they'll sift through the crumb trying to find that bigger bit. That bit needs to be your hook bait not a bit of liquised bread. I also think theres a strong chance that liquidised will bloat fish as well bit like it does us. Half the time we're fishing for blades on a canal even more so in the cold conditions. Another thought is a fishes sence of smell is effectively taste so they suck in anything they think is food. Hopefully they suck in the fine particles of crumb and realise Oh this is food i need food to survive. I need more where is it. Big subject that really fastenates me, need to do a video on this don't I. Final note. Going back to visual / smell / taste The chip shop, we can smell a chippy from miles away that smell on the air makes you hungry. Same for fish :-) Water soluable scents / flavours. Oh one final thing Bread crumb in coloured waters yes 100%. Can't understand why some people say (ooh can't use bread today with the water like tea! what the ....) Have a good un at weekend :-) Scott

Hello really enjoy your videos, any thoughts on the hooks you use for stickfloat fishing.Do you use barbless or barbed or micro barbed?
@SoartackleCoUk
@SoartackleCoUk 2 ай бұрын
Hi and thank you for the feedback. Hook choice would be micro barbed, personally I don’t feel I get a proper hold with barbless hooks on rod and line. They’re great with a pole as the elastic in the pole keeps a near prefect tension all the time thus (fingers crossed) keeping the hook from falling out. Where rod and line it’s near impossible to keep that sort of tension as the rod tip just doesn’t act the same. So a micro barb on today’s modern hooks is just enough to hold it in place if the line should go slack. I remember the old days of likes of mustad hooks with them huge barbs on them 🥴. Obviously if a club stipulated barbless only then I’d follow those rules but in assuming your fishing running water. Hope that’s of help Again thanks for the question 😊 Scott

Well done great video I was wondering I can never get my rigs to weight up so I can see the tell tail shot settling any tips?
@SoartackleCoUk
@SoartackleCoUk 2 ай бұрын
Hi Terry thank you. Does take a little bit of sorting out and you might find it easier with pattern of float. It’s something I do get asked in the shop and it’s something that will make a difference. So my plan is to do a video and all being well show how it works. But in the meantime If you can picture the float tip as it is an indicator. It will show bites not only as it goes under but as lift bites or as we call them hold ups. The only way you can do this is by using the full length of the float tip. Obviously weather conditions etc etc can and will change this but if we keep simple. Imagine the float tip has three colours yellow first above that red then black. I’d would shot the float with the bulk taking the float so nearly all the yellow has gone. Stage one float set I’d probably have a couple of dropper shot that would take the float to red. Stage two As that final and third dropper settles the float tip will be primed and ready as only the black will be showing. If a fish picked up the bait and effectively swam up thus taking say two drop shot out you’d see the yellow show Lift bite. As you can see there’s quite a bit on this subject. But it’s quite important to use all the float tip. You can only set your floats up to a point at home with fine tuning being done on the bank. Adding or removing trim shot so that all important float tip position works as an indicator. I hope that helps But I will endeavour to do a video on the very subject soon. By all means if you have any more questions please ask 👍

are they sharp as korda? and do they get unsharp fast like korda?
@SoartackleCoUk
@SoartackleCoUk 3 ай бұрын
Hi, I can't speak of Korda as I do not use their hooks. However a note on Hayabusa. They have been manufacturing hooks in their factory in Japan for over 50 years, and some top competition lure companys will only use Hayabusa hooks on their lures. A big selling part with the lures is that they state the fact they are made using Hayabusa hooks. Hayabusa are a manufacturer making their products from start to finish from forming the steel to the finished product. Meaning there is no compremise on quaility. Where's many companies like Korda out source / buy in hooks from whoever is manufacturing them and branding them as their own, which is prefectly fine with some good quaility products. But I my opinion this can give quality problems at times. As for sharpness yes very sharp, I can never usderstand this sharping brand new hooks. Begs the quetsion if they were good enough in the first place they wouldn't need sharpening! Staying sharp is another reason for why people use them so much in lure fishing and thus switching to them now in the coarse fishing world. Hope thats a little bit of incite in to them, Put i mentioned above I cannot comment on them against Korda as I do not use their hooks. Tight lines

Not many tackle shops produce their own bait. I use pinky more in winter months, but not much squats. 🎣 PS maggot I've been getting from tackle shop has been frothing up even when cold why do they do this ?
@SoartackleCoUk
@SoartackleCoUk 4 ай бұрын
Pinkies can be a great bait all year round, like you say especially in the winter. Frothy maggots, it’s generally because they are sweating. Can happen even more when they are cold especially if in a bait tub with the lid on. As they’ll still be breathing and generating some heat they’ll create condensation inside the tub thus they’ll start the froth up. The tackle shop should be keeping them clean and putting fresh maize flour on they as they sell them to you, in doing so they should keep happily in a fridge with out you touching them for a couple 24hrs. Best way to keep maggots or pinkies in the fridge is in a tray the biggest that’ll fit in the fridge. No lid though that is important. Dust they with fresh maize flour. If they are frothy when you get them home your best off popping them in some fine sawdust to dry them off. To clean them off you’ll need a 2mm preferably riddle or 3mm shack the sawdust off then pop them in a tray with some maize flour. Hope that’s of help

Squatts used to be in most tackle shops years ago (1970's / 1980's) popularised by Leicester's Likely Lads, especially bronze squatts. Difficult to obtain nowadays, unless one orders over 2 gallons. Had to order from Northwich last year. Do Soar Tackle have squatts in stock throughout the year ?
@SoartackleCoUk
@SoartackleCoUk 4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your input and question 😊 Bit of a forgotten bait really, tend to get used more round here in Leicestershire Derbyshire on the autumn and winter canal leagues. We only tend to keep Squat through Autumn and Winter as there’s not the demand in the spring and summer. If we can see people want them and the bigger if is if the maggot farm is doing them then we’ll make sure they’re available for people.

Hi Steven, unfortunatly the rubber floats stop are a single use thing. Although bet someone has come up with away of rethreading them. You could use pellet waggler adaptors of which you can re use. www.soartackle.co.uk/middy-pellet-float-adaptor-2958-p.asp Hope thats of help
