Really Reallly Really cool! This is in a similar vain to what I want to invent!

Nice. Pedal steel guitarists have been doing this with eBows since the 70’s In particular, Buddy Emmons and Sarah Jory have used it to great effect

Really cool, I had seen the Korg device that uses tuning forks and was wondering if someone had done something similar with strings, so nice to strumble onto this. Is there control over different parameters such envelope (or can that be done externally)? Looking forward to seeing different types of this breed of instrument
@TheSoundStone2 ай бұрын
yep! Well, the last three units of this batch have more functions such as paraphonic velocity, omnichord sweep, arpeggiator, staccato mode etc. The next version of this instrument will have all of that plus much more. Technically we could have envelopes for each note since we have the internal circuitry for it, but its something we would explore down the line

For those interested in this, you should check out our new electro-acoustic synthesizer the String Armonica - kzbin.info/www/bejne/a56ymZpmnN9seqssi=gYxGwO7LzgZd-hXH . You can play 48 notes in full polyphony via 12 strings using a midi keyboard.

This is an interesting project but I would like to see it more closely resemble a pedal steel if possible. 10 strings I believe and bending bars over the pedals if possible

Wonderful to hear such big strides in the domain of acoustic synthesizer hybrids. I’ve been tinkering with resonators as well; is there internal logic that decides which coil gets sent which wave or is the same polyphonic wave ‘package’ sent to all coils at the same time?

Would it be possible to build a similar instrument with bass strings? It would be incredible to hear a duet of the two instruments side by side.

You show the instrument. You do not show it being played. You say that is your new instrument that you are bringing to market. But you do not link to that market. NO real information. Okay - pretty music. But really - no links or real info about it.
@bailey61657 ай бұрын
That was it playing, you don't touch the strings, they're manipulated using sympathetic resonance.

Hey there! I was playing it in the video but for this recording I was using a MIDI file so that I could move around and record it. On our page there is another video where I am performing live with a keyboard on a previous prototype. We will be selling it starting this month for $2950 including free USA shipping + accessories - initially we are starting the sales in small batches but will be ramping up this year. If you are interested in buying it, you can get on the pre-order list and you will be notified every time we announce a batch for sale: forms.gle/t4QN1EuFaUsW7kwm7 Thanks! -Will

Are the strings tuned to the harmonic series? Can you explain the tuning? Awesome innovation and instrument! A magnetic dampener would be a cool addition... not that you need suggestions ;)
@TheSoundStone7 ай бұрын
The strings are tuned chromatically from C-B. This allows four octaves of each string to be resonated, which in turn creates 48 notes of full polyphony (four chromatic octaves)! We have experimented with dampers and may incorporate in the future, we’ll keep you posted.
@Typical.Anomaly7 ай бұрын
@@TheSoundStone So are the things that look like pickups actually magnets? set up along the divisions of the strings where natural harmonics occur, i.e. 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, etc... (or their equivalents?)

@@TheSoundStone too rich for my blood, and many people's. consider also selling a DIY kit that includes the electronics, but allows the user to build their own zither, or hack something together with old guitar parts. the real innovation here is that it resonates a free string on keypress. let the hobbyists and DIYers go nuts with that. $3k is a lot, even if it is a fair price for R&D, fabrication, etc
@TheSoundStone7 ай бұрын
@@marcgiguere1883Yep, this is about as affordable as we can make it - the reasoning is that the cost of all of the wood and electronics, CNC work, finishing, and fine tuning is pretty high. It takes a lot of finessing since everything has to be setup within 1/10s of a mm for it to work properly. That said, we do plan on eventually releasing a kit for the electronics in the future. Our other synthesizer, which is based on the Ondes Martenot, will be more affordable (around $1200). Thanks for the feedback!

It works on the same principle of magnetic feedback - same as ebow, joyo, TC Aeon, etc. But we use our own circuit design and types of electromagnets. I also find the housing to be more comfortable to hold
