I think the person in the video said it best when he says there a combination of factors causing the knife crime epidemic,I agree with that point. Are we as a society more violent now,than society was 200 years ago.I doubt we are,probably more violent 200 years ago. Whats changed is how quick information,news and trends from one country to another gets exported,especially the bad stuff then impressionable young people copy what they see and don't have a good role model to look up to or aspire to be,then they see the local hoodlum and they think thats cool to copy and allure of easy money. Sadly there will always be violence, you can try and mitigate the risk via legislation,education and providing jobs which successive governments have done to be fair but there will always be people hell bent on hurting others there is no one solution that stops it and lets be honest its mostly young men that cause the majority of issues regarding knife crime and general violence. I think a lot of how you turn out as a person is down to your upbringing,especially parental responsibility or lack of it rather. Then theres the easy availability of drink and drugs then before you know it society is in the middle of a knife crime epidemic. Once the police get involved its already to late for the perpetrator and the victim both lives have been destroyed. Even if you doubled police numbers and banned the use of knives you still wouldn't stop the violence you might reduce it a bit but it won't stop. I think some people are just violent and disagreeable and they use anything that comes to hand quite literally,thats my opinion anyway. Interesting discussion..👍

What is the day-to-day difference between an AFO and an SFO?
@kevinthorp1419 Жыл бұрын
AFO are effectively response police officers supporting routine policing doing the same shift. Responding to firearms incidents where there is a threat to life. SFO work and deal with planned operations on high level criminality and potential terrorism where the use of firearms officers would reduce the risk of harm. Both are police officers so first priority is the protection of life. The SAS are the best soldiers in the world trained to kill with control and restraint where required.

Hi Jamie, great video and it really helped get an understanding, my question is for a young person just finishing school like me, where do you recommend I start in the police and are there any specialist skills I'd need to develop? Thanks :)
@pieterwhitehouse71682 жыл бұрын
you can go in through apprenticeship in some forces(wiltshire police partnered with University of the south of Wales to do this for example), but others need higher education qualifications. As he said you do 2 years probation, which will likely give you a good idea of which specialist role would suit you

Would a ex army new police officer, be able to apply for Armed Police earlier than most, for example bang on the 2 year point? Thank you.
@muddyfunker30142 жыл бұрын
Being ex military sometimes isn't seen as advantageous due to it being harder to unlearn different drills. Yes you can apply as soon after 2 years as there is a course. It's unusual but it does happen. If you're young in years as well as police service then it's highly unusual.

SAS do selection then go into a rotation of serving with different troops within their regt ,SAS selection alone is a different level of fitness and their training is far more difficult that CTSFO its the best of the fittess and most switched on soldiers most of which even fail selection UKSF is the pinnacle of any armed service in the world

In Finland every police officer is required to carry a firearm. It has never been a problem to anyone. Finnish police officers are trained for the worst, but it is very rare for an officer to really have to shoot a firearm in the real situation. Firearm is not a fetish, it is just a tool.

why do the armed police given all the training they get operate a shoot to kill policy?
@just4laughs762 жыл бұрын
Using a firearm is by default lethal force. there is no such thing as 'shoot to wound'. the whole concept of 'just shoot them in the leg' is hilariously ignorant, as if its less lethal. Arteries run through the legs too.
@muddyfunker30142 жыл бұрын
They don't. They shoot to neutralise a threat. Unfortunately that normally results in death of serious injury.

It could be considered, prior experience will help you with your application to get into firearms training, given that you have met the requirements as a serving Police Officer first.

@muddyfunker30142 жыл бұрын
Yes. The military sometimes isn't an advantage. Different drills are harder to unlearn. Sometimes they prefer a blank canvas. You'd still need to do at least 2 years unarmed.
@quintonlee41072 жыл бұрын
It could be considered, prior experience will help you with your application to get into firearms training, given that you have met the requirements as a serving Police Officer first. You must meet full requirements including many years of service. Working as a Firearms Officer is very close to a standard response officer, you will be deployed to more serious and dangerous jobs but effective communication and other skills are far more important. You will receive no extra consideration if you do not meet the requirements.

Hey Jamie, great and informative video. As a non-UK resident, I'm oftentimes struck by the tactics used by UK armed police. I've seen videos here on youtube where arrests were effected in the middle of Camden High Street by officers wielding what I take for a HK416 or comparable assault rifle whereas to me, a standard pistol would have been more flexible and easier to handle for the officers. After all, you need to store the pistol safely away to drag a person to the ground and handcuff him. That's not so easy with an assault weapon dangling around your waistline. I was wondering if there is also some "shock and awe" technique involved in the choice of weapons. How do you rate the flexibility with which officers can choose the most suitable gun for a given situation? - Also, in Germany, special forces are always masked and their identity is protected. I find it interesting to see that no such effort is made in the UK and wonder how officers see that.

Hi mate, interesting video! I'm aware that the army pretty much prohibit left handed shooting through protocol and their choice of standard issue firearm in the SA80. Would this be an issue within the police force and do you have any experiences with the matter? I'm extremely left eye dominant and not ambidextrous in the slightest so I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable attempting it right handed. Thanks in advance.
