As a young NHS manager donkeys years back i did a pest control course to help understand the subject for arranging pest control contracts. To realise the cowboys against the professional operations (and not neccessarily being from the big companies) One training night we had to go under the foundations of a large building, The professor lecturer chap told us to lay still and turn the helmet torches off . I nearly S**t myself in the dark and laying there quietly for ages.. he then told us to flick the torch on to see what had emerged -- jeeez, the creepy crawlies and things that had appeared in the dark . One of the best learning courses i have ever done of what is a very technical & very complex subject. .... I couldnt do your job every day chaps -- very professional and great fun to watch...

Yep I did lest control with 2 brothers who had done it 35 years possibly more and that's what they would always looks for grease marks from the coats and tbh they was bird specialists we never delt with anything other than birds. If you know the industry, you'll probably know the company lol. I was around 19 and they took on a guy who had worked for a big company doing pest control for years he was around 50 the man I worked with was in hospital and both bosses were busy so this was short term anyway this man was a true bodge artist lol I had to tell my boss even as like an apprentice lol. We went to a job it was to replace a small net at the back of the shop. Standard practice for me and bosses: remove all old net and wire then drill new fixings not measured out but still uniform, run new wire nice and staight strain it up net on nice and straight doubled over on all wires. This guy: removes old net keeps old wire it's old galvanised rusting away not stainless that we charge out for same for fixings. He then pulls the old wire hammers the old fixing in goes to the next fixing does the same then gets net throws it on badly and we're away. Shocking the old wire was all over the wall like a crazy man had done it lol

Fascinated by this! Great videos. But confused - I understand that you’re saying the source of them is generally the sewer, and they’re getting out of the sewer/connecting pipework through cracks and breaks in the pipes… but how do they end up inside the house from there?

Gutter rainwater downpipes definitely, under tiles and through felt yes, stack pipes less frequently but have seen it. Saw one caught in the cage once. It is VERY unlikely that rats get into a loft via rainwater drainpipes. So rare that it is one of the last things we would look for, including holes in walls, ivy growing up houses, etc. It can happen but very rare. It is amazing how they chew cables without being electrocuted that’s for certain!
