Many of you were looking for an english translation of these songs so I tried to translate the first two. The lyrics used for the third song was written by our poet Ady Endre and was translated already by Sir Maurice Bowra so I'm going to use his translation. This work of art was composed by Ferenc Kiss a hungarian musician and folklorist. It consists of three hungarian folk songs reimagined in a unique musical setting. The title of the composition is black bird. Birds in hungarian folk poetry often symbolize freedom and they also act as mediators between people or between heavens and the mortals. In the 19th and 20th centuries these folk songs inspired many poets and they used them or their symbols to express their own visions of a political revolution. In many modern poems the county hall represents the oppressive political system, the captives are the people who suffer under the actual regime, and bird is the revolution which brings freedom. I. Behold, a dark cloud appears and underneath a black bird is flying by. Alight here bird, alight let me send a message by you to my father, my mother and to my bethored! If she's asking how I'm doing, tell her that I'm in captivity at the Turkish Emperor, bound up in chains. My legs are so tired of standing on these marble stones, My hands are so tired of ringing the bell, My ears are so tired of listening to the whispering forest, My eyes are so tired of staring into the distance. II. The peacock has landed upon the county hall to bring freedom for the captives. I'm a captive, I'm a captive waiting for my release only God knows the time when it will come. If I'm set free, I'm going to take an oath to go to the church three times a day. Not to pray for the faithful departed, but to pray for those poor souls in captivity. III. translated by Sir Maurice Bowra A peacock takes its perch upon the county hall - A sign that freedom comes to many folk in thrall. Let the proud, frail peacock, whose feathers daze the sun, Proclaim that tomorrow here all will be undone.
