You may have answered this question in previous videos, but have you ever run Tomb of Horrors, Vecna Lives!, or White Plume Mountain for your Walpurgis session? (Since the objective is to kill the PCs)

Space 1889 is many things but steampunk isn't one of them. Its just speculative Victorian sci fi gaming.

Hi, Wally!! 😻 How much of the Judges Guild material has MGT2 adopted / retained as “official” Charted Space? I’m not really familiar with any of their Traveller material, but I see occasional references on travellermap (not putting the dot or the c oh em, because YT seems to block those comments or hold them for approval, lol) . I’d be interested in a video if any of it is still in the MGT2 OTU

I would not want to distill that stuff down myself. Too risky to carry something around like that in a container that could break if you fell or got hit in some way.

Thanks for the video and the great ideas! This is definitely one of my favorite channels for Traveller (and other ttrpg) content. Just a heads-up: this adventure was also re-released in JTAS Vol #8, which includes a room-by-room description and map for the palace. I don’t have the original for comparison, so I’m unsure about any additional changes. It would be fascinating to explore how we can incorporate (or, as in this adventure, exploit) planetary cultures to bring even more life to our Traveller adventures! Thanks and keep up the excellent work!

BTW, there's an adage that there's no need to apologize for mispronouncing a word learned while reading because reading is NEVER a bad pursuit. Sure, it's good to learn the proper pronunciation but the apology is purely discretionary.

Thanks for the video! I always think of the Robert E Howard Conan story where he's chased through the ruins but a particularly fast Giant Slug called The Hall of the Dead.

I just grabbed the bundle of PDFs for JTAS to go with my new slipcase of T5 books. Great timing, I'll show up for any more of these you decide to make. On the Cthulhu front that stuff can be done in T5, they have included sanity rules and the mythos beings can be fit into Traveller as anomalous entities and extra-dimensional psionic monstrosities, no magic required and all the cosmic horror you can imagine. Loved the guest appearance by Wally at the end.

The oldest that I still have is the Best of JTAS Volume 2 from 81, with stuff from JTAS 5 through 8. I keep it, along with LBB 0-6 and a few other books like the IISS Ship Files, in my Striker box set. I second the vote on Judge's Guild too. CSotIO was our first look at a complete epic setting, even before Greyhawk really took over.

Please do more of the original JTAS - I recently put together a PDF of all the Amber Zones and they are a great collection of adventure ideas. JTAS no 5 was the first one I got as well - it must have had a bigger print run - I went to the Games Workshop shop in Hammersmith back in the day, but never saw issues 1-4 for sale.

Slugs can’t reverse or back up. But, they can easily twist or turn, or even stretch over backwards to gain purchase upon the ceiling. Snails and slugs are very flexible anyway and can easily turn around on the spot if they need to retreat.

Regarding the spitting percentage chance to hit, it tells you WHY the first shot is low percentage - it is a RANGE FINDING shot. The game reason for doing it this way, is because it is intended to be a LETHAL attack (compare with the Catoblepas). This is WHY even the highest level characters had better be prepared to RUN FOR THEIR LIVES! (Like Conan did.)

Re: the acid damage. It’s not specified, and that usually means automatic death, especially for a creature of this strength. If you’re hit, you’re dead. However, this would not completely dissolve the corpse, since the purpose is to aid digestion of the body, which it will consume. Raising such a character from death should be as normal, although the DM is free to impose a charisma penalty if they choose to (but, there’s really no reason for this, beyond the role playing aesthetic). Any items should be made to save on the Item Saving Throw table.

First Dragon I ever bought. Mainly for the Baba Yaga adventure. Never used it but isn't there a T-34 in it? The Loresmaster adventure turned into the Shadow World setting. And some of the MERP suppliments are amazing even if you don't play MERP or RM (pick an edition) for maps and settings.

You are covering a lot of great monsters for sure. I'm a big fan of aquatic adventures so any monster with water variants or purely aquatic based is something i love to see. although i haven't used any slugs yet they've been on my radar for some time, recently i came up with a cool tomb where the ancient kings body is in a casket at the bottom of a deep pool and is guarded by an ancient giant catfish named kings guard. personally a video on different biomes and what you'd use in them for your games may be a fun video especially if you put in things that you probably wouldn't have a lot to talk about.

Apparently the old AD&D Monster Card says 4-32, save for half. I don't have a set at hand for reference, so maybe someone can check and reply below! It also appears that 2e has the same stats. If anyone has a 2eMM at hand, please let us know! I always read the resistance explanation to mean that "they must be attacked by sharp-edged weapons or with magical spells." As a player, I wouldn't expect magical blunt weapons to be effective, but I would understand if they were. Using the magical +bonus as flat damage seems like a great rule.

I’m sure they modified the Monster Cards from the original intent to simplify it (you can only fit so much onto a Monster Card).

I haven't used a giant slug yet, because I always assume it is too strong LOL! I'm running a solo game now and the player is really good. He just took down a frost giant the other week (that's why I was asking about giants hahaha! I thought of throwing a juvenile at him, but wound up just throwing a full strength one). He didn't take a single point of damage. He got lucky though. It rose up out of an embankment of snow on a hill and tried to throw a huge ice boulder at him and rolled a 1, slipped and fell down. Then, his henchman is an illusionist and cast phantasmal force to make the ground seem like ice all the way down the hill, while he, a necromancer, casted enervation on him twice. It was funny, because he slid down the hill on his tummy and when he got to the bottom, he was dragging himself across the ground and going, "WHOAAAaAaaAaaaa!!!" as if he were slipping on ice, because he didn't disbelieve it LOL! He stopped at their feet and he sent in his zombie hyenas. The giant tried to stand up, but failed a save and slipped back down again LOL! The hyenas just tore him apart while they cast spells from the safety of their carriage LOL!

The 2nd edition write up says "Only edged and pointed weapons and magical attacks can harm a giant slug." So, I guess it meant magical attacks. "Cannot be harmed by blunt weapons or spells that cause crushing or impact damage." So, ice storm hail and magic missiles and the like....
@glenncox9128
@glenncox9128 Күн бұрын
What it specifically means in the 1e rules is that blunt weapons have NO EFFECT; but pointed or edged (piercing thrusting or cutting slashing) weapons OR magical spells or devices will have NORMAL EFFECTS as appropriate to the attack form. That DOES mean the slug can be slain by large blunt bludgeoning attacks if they are sufficiently BIG & WEIGHTY enough, such as an avalanche, cave in, or Earthquake. A slug is just a homeless snail.🐌
