I owned a 1972 Caprice coupe with the 454 and loaded with options. One of the best cars I have ever owned, I wish I still had it.

They were nice cars, the only drag is they had so many air pollution devices to clean up a carburated engine. The sad part was they cut into power, the added weight of bumper standards ,not to mention the smallest V-8 available was a 350,most owners of fullsise cars were lucky to average 12 miles to the gallon, and the Arab fuel crisis was just around the corner, adversely affecting people's opinion of eight cylinder fullsize cars.

Another case of messed up government regulation. Just can't imagine all the complaints and hassles dealers went through trying to educate, then listening to complaints about the car not starting, almost got in an accident, missed a wedding, etc. Fortunately, this system was removed in years to come. Most of those cars had the system bypassed as well.

It really was a shame. The Vega was kind of a fun car to drive. Too bad GM/chevy was so worried about saving nickels and dimes, they could have put steel sleeves in the cylinders. I'll never figure out why they chose to use an cast iron head....Dis similar metals and money wasted, someone said they were worried about the valve seals falling out of the aluminum head casting. It is hard to believe that any poor Vega actually received all that rust proofing bragged about in this video. All this penny pinching just opened the doors for japanese imports to take over.

The Vega hatchback would be sold today as a Crossover/SUV and you pay $10k extra over the sedan/coupe.

1980,was the last year of the steel tilt cab,I have said this before, but I think the GMC/Chevrolet steel tilt cab is a sharp looking style ques, the two glass slight wrap around Windshield, the front and rear cab top style and the overhang -s front and rear.

It was very good but The Seven UPS from 1973 beat it and Bullitt from 1968 I really like Bullitt but I do a 1 A 1 B thing it’s a toss up Bullitt vs Sevenups but I am partial to Sevenups because of the Pontiacs and the whole Plot line of the movie I do like McQueen but the plot of a fleeing syndicate thug that swaps identity with another in Chicago then goes out to SF Cal is ok but I like seven ups NY setting with Money laundering Shylocks and several Scenes like at the Funeral Home and where Buddy meets Vito by the Water front and my favorite nostalgia trip threw the old neighborhood and the old Barber signals him to come into the shop because he has street information to tell him any how it’s just my opinion and both movies are equal but because of Pontiac and a few scenes and basic plot I dig the Seven UPS over Bullitt

Being a poor college student in 1973, I could never own one of these then. But my parents had one and I loved driving it. I can remember borrowing that car to take a trip across several states on vacation and the comfort at the end of a long day of driving Was amazing compared to modern cars.

I dated a girl in college in the 70s with an omega. Of course, it’s a re-badged nova, but the nova was a good car. She loved it. I think showing this torture test of this transmission on here is the height of stupidity and marketing, whether it is meant for the public or just for dealers.
