Being African-American, I never had any problems with Caucasian Germans when I lived there in the mid to late 1990s. That said, almost all of my interactions with "African Germans" were confrontational. I worked in an American Army Health clinic, and we had expat Africans on staff and as patients. Half the staff were condescending towards the African Americans who worked with them, and the other half were extremely curious about our impression of America. That half were mainly from the South Africa region and were amazed at the freedoms we were accustomed to. Many of them married Europeans to escape Apartheid, and Germany was their new home. The other half that made our lives hell were predominately from Ethiopia and Somalia. For them, 'we' represented every negative stereotype concerning the African Disopia. I had a few African-German patients request that non-African Americans treat them because they assumed 'we' didn't know what we were doing. I had two African medical personnel constantly 'quizzing' me on my medical competency, even though I was in charge and treated patients on three continents without so much as a hiccup in my medical care before either was out of nursery school. My boss chalked it up to jealousy and cultural angst (whatever that means.) But I took it for what it was, reverse bigotry. In social gatherings, the discriminatory men [African Germans] would first ask me or the group I was in, "Where 'we' were from?" and then 'teach' us everything that was wrong with African American culture. Simultaneously, they complimented and then shamed any African American women who were in our accompany. I guess this was a pickup line? Anyway, it wasn't the culture shock I was expecting. And they weren't expecting the 'sistas' to give them a little wake-up call, care of the US Army. After some time, I began to understand their perspective on African American culture. What they thought they knew about "black folks" were mostly misnomers and half-truths. I would point out their admiration for Malcolm X and inform them that the same thing they hated about 'us' was the same thing that promoted Malcolm from the gutter into a better human being, and with his travels around the world, his significant appreciation for all peoples no matter who they were or what they looked like. My interactions with 'traditional' Germans (this includes Turks and other nationalities from Europe and Africa) on every level were extremely pleasant, from the Polizei to the mom-and-pop shops on the Volkpaltz to more professional settings. I hypothesize the same affable qualities will bleed into the next generation of African Germans. I must admit, though, that I found the treatment of people experiencing homelessness very discouraging and the overt cast system for women professionals behind the times. But times are changing for the better. That said, I agree with everything you pointed out. To this day, my life-long friends in every hue and nation call Germany home. My life's goal is to retire there someday (to hell with stinky France). Okay, I'm talking out of my ass; I'll be quiet now.

While I do appreciate you reviewing Gioiosa, there’s not enough about this scent on media, I disagree with the ‘smells like bianco latte but better blended’. Gioiosa is its own perfume and although resemblance to Bianco is for sure there, once Gioiosa develops and dries down, you get a different scent, jasmine is there and the spiciness of bianco latte is gone. Gioiosa is much better in my opinion but to each their own. Thank you for your review :)

I immediately clicked in this when I saw the title. Have you ever tried Kayali Vanilla by Huda Beauty? It's divine. Also, Bath and Body Works works just released some dupe sprays. Not sure if they're available in Europe, though. There's a scent called Viva Vanilla and it's everything!
