This one doesnt tell you that the big reason for the tunnel was due to a drastic avalanche. Lot of lives were lost. I have been thru the tunnel was was a young kid. My stepdad worked for Great Northern, and then merged with Burlington Northern.

The internet says the tunnel was opened May 1888.

I used to play on that old structure during stays at Holden with family and friends as a young adult. I can’t say enough about the wonderful residents and stunning beauty of the village and surroundings. The old mine was a dream for an urbex fan (or 13 year old kid). Although I’ll admit to missing the haunting structure I once knew, I understand the importance of the immense progress made to protect the fragile ecosystem. Thanks for posting this video! It brought me right back to the happy summer of 1992! 🌞

You forgot to go downtown where city hall is and what used to be the heart of the business district. I moved there in the early 70's the town was a boom town with the expansion of Chief Joe Dam. There were two taverns a couple of restaurants, a Coast to Coast hardware along with a credit union a bank and two grocery stores. Two gas stations and a drug store. The town really went downhill in the 90's. Sad because it was a nice place to live and raise a family back in the day.

very nice - thank you for sharing. You can walk much of the old higher line used before this lower/longer tunnel was built, the huge old snowsheds are particularly interesting.

This is great. Keep in mind the old line was electrified for a short two years, so the window of recording was super short. Excellent.

As far as I've been able to find, the first minute or two of this video has the only footage of the old cascade tunnel and route on Steven's Pass through Wellington on the internet. Does anyone know if any other footage exists or where to find it?

What? No dog? You can't have a cabin in the woods with snow and no dog.
@malcolmkeithley73783 жыл бұрын
No, dogs are frowned upon in the National Park and the Lake Chelan Wilderness area, although I have video of Park employees letting their dogs run loose on the trails. Hey, but. don't tell anyone as you are given a ticket for taking your dog on a trail.
