Beautiful soothing colours! I did this for my art graduation exam and I completely forgot😅 thank you for the informative process video..i did not have a steamer so Im not sure how i steamed the works but perhaps hairdryer?😊 I’m thinking to return to this technique 😊

Can be combined tecniques of hot wax with canting and pebeo silk paints( instead of chemical dyes which need to be fixed with colour fixer) on the silk? If so, how can it be removed wax? Any instructions to fix the colour? Your answer is much appreciated. Thanks!

What are the benefits to using hot wax instead of gutta?

Hi! It is very different approach. With hot wax I use different size & shape brush strokes and can cover very large areas fast. The surface covered by wax is protected from any accidental splashes of dye while I work.. I personally have more fun and freedom working with wax. 🤗 But gutta is great also, especially when I work with very thin outlines and elegant finishes 👌🏽

There are water removable guttas that you can use for this purpose. (I rarely use them.) For me it's mostly hot wax. I extract it from fabric by ironing with paper on both sides and steaming after.

What do you use to stretch and hold your silk taut on your frame? Are you able to get a strong hold on the silk? Do you use embroidery floss to suspend your silk?

I use regular cotton or polyester thread and needle to stretch my silk. On one of the “shorts” you can see me do it

And yes, after you wet the fabric it’s possible to adjust the thread for even stronger stretch

I bought these silk/wool blended scarves and I havent painted on them yet. What did you use and, if you used dye and steam set them, did you have to change anything to accommodate the blend? Thanks!

I used HDupont steam dyes on silk/ wool blend. It’s more difficult to stretch, because the fabric is loose if not hemmed beforehand (so I hem it first). And the dye spreads differently on thicker fabric that’s all

I used Jacquard Green Label Silk Dyes and I found the colors are not as deep and rich as they are if you steam them. The Jacquard Red Label Silk Dyes are the steam set only dyes and they are good dyes. I had to change to DuPont Silk Dyes because my subjects changed and I needed a different color palette. Your scarf turned out beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

I prefer DuPont also! With Jacquard I only used the fixative solution but it wasn’t the best experience

Hi 😁 Your piece turned out beautiful! I am a silk painter as well, but I don't like using the serti method. I don't like lines in my artwork but you have done a great job with the lines! The colors you chose look really good together and work well giving a sense of early spring and freshness. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your feedback! Serti isn’t my most favorite technique either but the clients happened to like it a lot… Personally I prefer hot wax technique or free style

Can you use silk paints instead of dyes as the only silk paint available in my country are Marabau silk paints (iron fixed)

Yes, I use it sometimes also. It will make your silk a little less soft. But if you use lighter shades the difference is not so noticeable. If you use very dark colors then you can feel the silk more thick and hard
