The 2012 revival eats shit compared to this masterful staging and orchestrations...

The music is as good as the climax of the prom scene in the movie, if not better omg

Personally, I think this version is better than the 2012 version. It's very haunting and a bit scare. It just gives the impression that something horrible is about to happen. Also, the lyrics. Not only amazing vocals from this girl but amazing acting. You put all those together you can here she's finally had enough, and now that she knows she has power, she's going to use it to literally take her metaphorical power back. The lazars were not needed, but the fact everything goes dark and all you can hear is screams with flashing lights and sparks is good enough. It leaves a lot to your imagination.

I wonder if it was meant to be foreshadowing when the gym teacher says “so c’mon ladies, burn burn burn burn” bc that’s their ultimate fate later 🤔

I am obsessed with this song and the choreography!! Yeah, they don’t mesh in this scene and it should have been toned down, but, their dancing is on point! And dare I say… Sexy?! Brings me back to watching Solid Gold on TV (yeah I’m that old) I’m enthralled with Sue’s saunter down stage and then the knee bend, head jerk and hand snap moves she does when Tommy is singing!! LOVE IT!!!

From the start of Fierstein's little masterpiece I knew the wife had something on her mind, something she needed to say, but I did not guess what it was. Stockard Channing has always been a miracle to watch. (In 40 years of watching her during interviews I get the impression that even now she's insecure of just how fine her work is.)

I'm glad this musical was revived but it really needs this budget, staging, and most importantly this arrangement of the song to shine. The staircase is absolutely spectacular. The pyrotechnics and laser work was perfect. This is DRAMA at so high a level it just couldn't be appreciated in its time.

Wow ! What note on the scale does Betty hit at about 2:38 on the counter when she sings,"And the sin never dies" ? It must be a high E. And she was never afraid to hit those notes at full force. I was lucky enough to see her in both 'Cats' and later in 'Edwin Drood'.. What a beautiful and resonant voice she has.

I get that this was the 80’s, but they figured out how to land a helicopter on stage in Miss Saigon. Yet somehow stringing a bucket of blood in the rafters so that it can be properly dumped on Carrie was impossible?? Having Chris and Billy just run on and throw it over her head just looks so silly and dumb. Thank goodness the revival and the new productions have corrected this!
@justj1833 Жыл бұрын
This show was ASTOUNDING! The Producers had no balls.Audiences were on their feet CHEERING and SCREAMING. Yes it was like 2 different shows and it was jarring, but could have been fixed. It would have had a long run but nobody had the balls to keep it going . I've seen endless amounts of Great Bway shows since then and NOTHING has surpassed the artistry and thrilling performances of B.Buckley and L. Hatley. PS: Debbie Allen's choreography should have been burned, buried, dug back up and then drowned!

as much as the director fucked up this show and fucked over Linzi, you must admit that these women bring these characters to life so well. Linzi sounded legit terrified. (Fair though, because on opening night the woman who originally played Margaret almost got beheaded during evening prayers.)

I think it's so bittersweet that they have her almost angelically glowing. Because all along she hadn't done anything to deserve this. Her murders are still wrong, of course, but it looks almost like righteous indignation from a certain angle. Plus the "God has seen you sinning just beginning...pray for salvation from damnation"...her singing that line almost sounds like "I wield the power of life and death now...pray all you want; you never listened to me begging you to stop, so why would I ever listen to you?!". A good kid who was stepped on her whole life and finally snapped and went mad.
