Another good step forward. Its work like this you just dont appreciate in kit cars as its so easy to overlook the thought and energy that goes in to all the little bits we take for granted in manufacturers cars. Not sure the knobs for the heater look quite in keeping mind you got plans for them or are you keeping them as there are?
@air_cooled_andy10 күн бұрын
Hey Andy, yeah that’s a good point about the knobs, they may need dialling down a bit (excuse the pun 😜) the plan is to house them in a modified MK2 golf centre console which has turned up today. May get that in the next vid. Thanks for watching mate 👊

Cheers Andy! Yeah sure!…I started off as a trainee engineer restoring Ferraris at DK engineering many years ago, then other companies, then a mechanic. About 20 years ago I started down the path of becoming a rehabilitation engineer. So I do that now self employed for two wheelchair services in London. Part of my job is to design and build special controls and seating systems for patients who use electric wheelchairs. If something off the shelf cannot be found then I have to come up with a solution to keep them independently driving for as long as their condition allows. Mini joysticks, head or chin controls etc etc. great job, very challenging and interesting!

Always wanted to do a similar build. I'm assuming it's the custom space frame version rather than the beetle floorpan conversion. Saw one of these kits going for 5k unbuilt around 10 years ago, still annoyed I missed it. I wanted to make a rwb style, wide arch sorta gt2 rep, and found a company called Sunburst 911 Japan - they might have some parts that interest you. Keep up the great work mate she's a beaut 👌

Great videos! A tip: I converted my Capri dash illumination over to LEDs. At night, especially on country roads, the black metal dials, looked way too reflective and distracting. As the original dash dimmer didn't work with LEDs, I 'clouded' the plastic lenses of the LED bulbs with fine wet and dry paper, and archived a much more even, diffuse light across the dials. 👍

When I built the Covin I spent a few hrs at the scrap yard. Rover SD1 full wiring loom strip out. £20 This worked great as the length was more than I needed & it was a ribbon type loom. Other thigs like the electric window motors from the SD1 £15 each. I guess you have seen my video of mine. Another thing I saw when visiting the guys who were building these in Halifax was. They said it was better to fit the windscreen last as it makes wiring the dash much easier. However that is not how I did it. Hope it all works out. I think the most expensive thing apart from the Kit was the genuine porsche glass all round. From memory I got it from a breakers in Exeter. £450. But that was many moons ago. Steve.
@air_cooled_andy2 ай бұрын
Hey Steve, thanks for your comment, I’ve watched your build video a couple of times, in fact I was watching it again last night. Really interesting, clever guy, I loved the pop up lights part of the story. I miss being able to go to breakers yards and forage for parts. The good ol’ days eh!
@Steviegtr522 ай бұрын
@@air_cooled_andy Yes, most yards now will not let you in. My cousin Daz bought the kit after I'd finished mine. He did drag racing back then. He built a tube chassis & fitted a 350ci small block chev 5.7 litre Ls6 in the front. Apart from a small scoop on the bonnet you could not tell. 1st time out it did a 11.5 second run & then someone came up to him & immediately bought it from him. It belongs to some Lord down south now. Mine was seen in Middlesborough a few years after i sold it. But no idea if it still exists. Take care & will follow your build along. Don't forget to load the doors with all the weight it is going to have before fitting to the body. Ask me how I know. Measure once fit twice. haha. Oh & i filled the roof void with low volume filler foam to help keep down any drumming. Steve.
