So, how does the EU actually work, apart from a having common market and no borders? The EU is actually quite simple. It’s supranational group, with 28 member countries. The EU makes laws and rules it’s members states must follow, like citizens of a country would. It takes and distribute money around, like a country does with taxes. It has a parliament, a court, a flag, a president (or many) and common currency (for the most parts) and much other stuff you’d expect a country to have. But it is NOT a country. The member states retain their sovereignty. If the EU members don’t want to follow the common rules, the EU’s way of enforcing them are limited to more economic sanctions. The EU can’t really put Portugal in prison, if they don’t want to obey. The EU has a lot of different agencies, but only 7 main institutions. The European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, which shouldn’t be confused with The European Council, which they of cause also have - and neither of them should be I saw this in the script but not in the video?
