When I was Volunteer Firefighter from December 1987 through November 1997, the Volunteer fire department i ran with had 2 calls similar to this. The one was a train was starting up at a flour mill just up the road from my house and starting a grass fire. About an area 2000 square feet burned. Fortunately, it wasn't too dry, or it would have been worse! The second time the train came from the grain silos going to flour mill and grass all along the track caught fire. If i remember correctly, it was about the size of an acre or 2. Fortunately, we were coming back from another call when we spotted the grass fire near the crossing justbdown from the grain silos and also spotted burnt grass at the silos. After I left the fire department, there was a larger grass fire at the silos and i believe a train engine did catch fire from the grass fire, which i believe had started from work on the tracks. Another grass fire at the silos started when a truck driver dropping off grain dropped a lit cigarette into the dry grass along the tracks. That fire jumped the road, almost caught a corn field on fire!! They had to call in 3 or 4 other fire departments for that one!! That goes to show you how quickly things CAN get out of control and spread to other areas!!

Nice video! What are all those yellow plastic containers strewn along the side of the tracks? I'm thinking they must be related to the railroad?

1:26:22...... I always wondered when two trains pass each other whether the engineers and or conductors wave at each other especially when they're out in the middle of nowhere.... Looks like I got my answer. I guess I'm not a railroader cuz i would as an engineer if I was sitting there waiting for another train to pass me I would write a funny joke or something on a piece of cardboard and as the other train passed hold it up or at least blew'em a raspberry.🤣

How is this train running? Doesn’t it need to be on tracks in order to be moving?

As an employee of a Class 1 railroad who repairs locomotives, it's nice to see the damage actually happen. By the time we see them it's been a few days at least. One issue I have is that the unit is still running!? Once the fire is reported, that unit NEEDS to be shut down. The fire will usually go out on it's own once it's burned all the fuel it's using in that turbo. We see them catch fire at the shops all the time. Shut the engine down, the flames will die out.
