Caesar also leverages harassing and threatening senators during his triumvirate with Crassus and Pompey Magnus in order to force their legislation through. Hence the warning popularly attributed to Sulla when he pardons Caesar saying that he sees Marius amplified in Caesar. And it would prove to be true that Caesar would turn out not only to be above strong-arming tactics but also much more belligerent behavior in order to achieve his political goals. Really enjoying these shorts! Although I don’t hero worship the man in any way, something we should all be cautious of doing, his is such a great story; one I never tire of hearing.

I reject the notion that Cataline was a villain . Lucius Sergius was a populari who attempted to root out the rampant corruption and abuse the optimates were wallowing in . I see Caraline as a Luigi Mangione type who sought to bring justice at the point of a sword since that was the only way justice was ever going to come to the depraved Roman Republic .

A man's glory is his strength , a womans glory is her hair , a childs glory is his father. Strength of character is more important than strength of arm. Try some American heros like the cowboys , Davy Crockett , Jim Bowie , Jim Bridger , Daniel Boone. Men who built America . In a hero we see some image of both GOD and father. But you deep 6 any hope of that understanding

Where is the evidence for him deserting because of "how his people were being treated" ? Soldiers deserted for a myriad of reasons, and that particular reason fits all too conveniently with the romantic narrative of Spartacus as the "noble freedom fighter" - a narrative frequently assigned to historical figures who may have been little more than opportunistic common criminals. I've also heard what sounds to me the more plausible story-line that after deserting he became a bandit and highwayman before being captured and indentured as a gladiator.

Cost of Glory, would you ever consider covering the Iliad, or compose some sort of parallel lives, but based on the Trojan War heros and classical antiquity? Though they are legendary personas, I think it be fascinating to cover those men of the days of Agamemnon. It could be a mini series like 5 mins long hahah. I enjoy your content 👍

If its the new movie it was bullshit and naked butt. Spartacus was born into Slavery , trained as a Gladiator. If he was in the Roman army so was i. Kirk Douglas as Spartacus is much more believable then you , but the fact is i frist read of him in a history book printed sometime between 1900 and 1920 Before your bullshit Revisionist history.

In the end Sulla was the Gladius in the Hand of the Status Quo. Nothing less, nothing more. BUT .... the populares where a fucking catastrophy at that point. Marius was suffering from dementia and died. His son only knew how to butcher and people like Norbanus and Cinna had nothing to offer. It was over. Instead of being bitchy after the war against Iugurtha Marius should have mentored Sulla.

The communist like Spartacus because the two statues of slaves breaking their chains , one black one white. Again in the camp all the goods were shared , food and clothing anything else taken as booty of life's necessities. Communist would see this as their ideals working in the real world , however under wartime conditions rationing also works which would never be tolerated in peace time.

Alas for Sparta the only man who would make the changes for it's continuation without losing the bonds of it's ideals. who remained as uncurrupted in terms of personal gain. Lisandros. The only one who could have turned around the 'lame kingship' was wasted. Only reagent Pausaneas and Leonithas, for me at different times could be mentioned in his company amongst the Lakothemones
