This is very useful for me! This December 31-January 6 I will be exploring the Bernina Express route and I'm due here on January 1. I would like to take the funicular up and either walk down or go down via the chair lift. But maybe on New Years Day there will be a massive queue to go up and the paths will all be blocked by snow?

Your planned route on Muottas Muragl is also beautiful in winter, but there are a few things to consider: On New Year’s Day, the funicular may experience long queues due to high demand, so it’s worth starting early in the morning. The panoramic hike from Muottas Muragl to Alp Languard is often not fully accessible in winter, as it can be covered in deep snow and the chairlift from Alp Languard to Pontresina is not operational in winter as the ski area there is closed. Instead, you can explore the groomed winter hiking trails on Muottas Muragl or take the sledding run down to the valley. I recommend checking the snow conditions and open trails in advance with the local tourist information or on the Muottas Muragl website. Enjoy your trip and the spectacular winter landscapes of the Engadin!

Einfach wunderschön, das anzusehen. Diese Stelle ist aber auch historisch von Bedeutung. Damalige politische Mächte rangen Ende des 18. Jh. um die Gunst, die Schöllenen und damit auch den Gotthard zu bezwingen, verbunden mit vielen Opfern. Das Denkmal von General Suworow sowie div. bildliche Darstellungen geben ein beredtes Zeugnis davon.
