Hear me out Mark, this would be a perfect time to make a "half dog" model for your channel. Obviously not the same as a real shop dog, but the first step in my theory that you need a resident shop dog in your videos. You already know my dog species choice.

Always thinking outside the box Bob. It’s a sound idea. Not sure how to loft an intestinal tract however. May need to employ some AI on that bit. Or a 3D printer.

When it goes well, yes.. When something goes awry, one of the most frustrating parts of the build.

@@Nomadboatbuilding I can only imagine. Finish work has always been my final satisfaction AND nemesis. I added over 30 hours to one of my boat projects because I got in a rush towards the end. Re-ataching the cap rail after final varnish, (off the hull), & slipped with my brace & bit leaving a deep gouge in my 1st plank below the gunnels.

Hello Marc, I just binge watched the entire built. I am a sailor not a boat builder. In fact jus a couple of days ago I sailed a yardstick regatta in my area where 2.4mR participated. I like crafts and all thing I can do with my hands so thanks for sharing to progress of the build. The series is 3 years old now, do you see any chance to make an episode 54 to show what the owner added and to see her sail on the water? Keep on the good work, I will follow more of your channel.

I know what I want and can draw all the views as you have shown here. My lament is that I can't express the 2D drawings into CAD software. Just having a little winge. Cheers
@Nomadboatbuilding2 күн бұрын
If you can juggle the lines on paper and develop a table of offsets, you should be able to get it into CAD. That said, why bother? If you are going to build it, you need to draw it full size anyway, unless you think CNC equipment will produce moulds for you. I for one always regret not having a full size lofting at my disposal whenever I build from plans that have provided full size mould drawings. It would be the same with cnc produced parts.
@robertcain34262 күн бұрын
@@Nomadboatbuilding Thanks for your reply. Yes, that's correct, lofting full size is not a problem. It's more the case that I could show my design work to others expressed as 3D and get the exact measurements of bulkheads etc, without having to loft fullsize. Cheers
@NomadboatbuildingКүн бұрын
Well I haven't used CAD since the late 90's so I'm well out of touch with using that software but my approach would be to build a wireframe using the same grid a set of lines is built on and let the software skin it over. There are probably tutorials out there for doing exactly this. Maybe try using Freeship or some other boat design specific software.

Marc, it's absolutely lovely! I said it after your last video, but it needs saying again. I've looked at that photo in John Gardner's book many a time, bought one of Walt Simmon's books on wherries, but unfortunately, never got a chance to build it. Your story was a great vicarious experience of the process, and you ARE a good storyteller. It held my interest the whole way. I can't wait to see what your next project will be. Best from Southcentral Alaska!

Many thanks John. If you don't have the time to build the boat, consider doing a planked model. It can be just as interesting. Around two inches to the foot is a good scale to build at 1/4 scale even better of your mantle is big enough to display it.

Okay, after all is said and done how much would this cost me to have you build this boat in USD? Inquiring minds want to know…🤔
@Nomadboatbuilding7 күн бұрын
Somewhere between $20 - $25 K. There was a bunch of design time in there and I would probably do some things differently so it's hard to say exactly. I build on a time and materials basis. This particular boat was 450 hour plus about $2600 in materials.

@@Nomadboatbuilding Dear Nomad, I’m making probably a silly question but the waterline from a boat depends from the weight and consequently the water volume occupied by this weight in the water, Archimedes buoyancy principle, then when marking the waterline in the hull without testing and without knowing the weight from the boat, it is just following the plan?
@Nomadboatbuilding11 күн бұрын
Yes, I placed the waterline according to the designed waterline. It worked out fine when floated. These boats are dry sailed so the waterline isn’t really important anyway.

What material is traditionally used for blade guides?
@Nomadboatbuilding12 күн бұрын
I don't know if you are referring to th eguide blocks or the housing. Mine was a Zamak housing with steel blocks. Lignum Vitae is arguably the best material for blocks but roller bearings are common too, especially on larger saws.
