Making the gunnels and inwales bright really makes the sheer lines of this beauty pop. Can't wait to see her fully painted. Have a good evening, Mark and thank you for tonight's video.

Sch a beautifully built boat deserves to be totally varnished inside and out.

I’m really not a fan of varnish on these rotary cut veneer plywoods. Some varieties are not too bad but this Occume is kind of meh. Staining can improve matters.

I hope you’re happy with the products. I’ll have more to say about my experience applying them in the next couple episodes.

Hi Looking great - how many coats of varnish? What was the thinning ratio for the first (30% ) What is next ?
@Nomadboatbuilding6 ай бұрын
For waterbased products I don't do any thinning. I don't believe it would help in any way. I only applied two coats of the Seagold varnish. These are just base coats to get started so I can get onto paint. I'll come back to add at least four more coats of oil based varnish before we are done. I usually do six in total as a minimum and usually cap it off at ten unless the customer wants more. After six, I think all your doing is building lustre but probably not adding any more appreciable protection. A thinner finish is more flexible than a thick one so other than some impact resistance and smooth visual quality of finish, I don't think more coats necessarily means better protection. The UV resistance doesn't increase as that only exists in the surface layer.

I’m liking it, but the owner should read up on waterborne finishes. They are every bit as good as the old oils. In fact, some are even better. He sure could save you the grief! One quick question, why am I seeing this in July and you are saying that it’s Christmas? This video was just posted on hour ago!
@Nomadboatbuilding6 ай бұрын
He tried the waterborne varnish on a previous boat and didn’t like the look or performance. We have sailed way past that build/publish continuum on this series. This episode was two Christmas’ ago in real time.

@@Nomadboatbuilding thanks for the answer. Boy, I guess you are running behind just a little bit. I can only imagine the effort and extra time it takes to produce your videos. Keep them coming! And thanks for what you do.

When you were kneading that paint tube, i was envisioning the cap popping off and a disaster. I can tell you about several Blue Dykem horror stories and Smurf consequences.🤬

I was having a similar premonition Bob. I like dispensing out of those Blobbles®️ but they actually kind of suck for mixing. However, I’m seeing opportunities for a Nomozzel®️attachment that could revolutionize paint application as we know it.
