How do you attach the sash to the dress? Is that some kind of rhinestone pin/clip?
@agelesstailoress
@agelesstailoress Ай бұрын
@@swagmasternim2807 Yes it is! The two blue rhinestone clips you see in the pictures are actually brooches. I simply jab them through the sash and anchor them into the bertha of the dress. This helps the sash stay secure especially as the dress is off the shoulder.

7mm hoop boning?
@agelesstailoress
@agelesstailoress Ай бұрын
@@Coffincruisine It’s been a long while since I’ve made this video so I have forgotten what I might have said, please forgive me. 😅 I used a 1/2” hoop steel similar to this one: www.biasbespoke.com/corset-amp-lingerie/boning-amp-busks/1-2-white-spring-steel-boning-23-sizes-available.html They also have pre-cut and tipped 1/4” boning if that would better suit your needs. I personally spring for the pre-cut and tipped bones bc I’d rather the convenience of those over that hassle of doing it myself, especially for such a small project. 😊

I appreciate your explanation of labels for gowns in the time period you are addressing. In my extensive research into women's gowns in the last third of the 1700s, I have never even once come across the term "Italian Gown"; Not in any museum listings, authoritative books on gowns of this type, or from any other established authority independent of a particular costuming blog. As I began studying the Robe a l'anglaise, I observed that the style evolved to having the fitted back and skirt cut separately, but finding any evidence of a new name never appeared. While it is handy to have a term that quickly differentiates this change of style, I wonder where the term came from other than in a contemporary setting. If you have any sources that reveal the use of the Italian Gown label during the 1700s, I would be interested in finding that out. Great video. Thank you!

If you want your eyelets to be as strong as possible you should not punch a hole through the fabric. But rather use an awl to spread the fibers to the desired size and then cover the hole with thread to make them as strong as possible.

Report to Transporter 2, beam down with Science Team. If you survive the mission, go to the crew room, for some cubes of nutrients, and coffee, listen to Spock play his harp. Deliver your report, to the Bridge. Live long, and make clothing, time appropriate.

What new things have your been working on? I don't understand how you only have just over 700 subscribers, your videos and the work you put into them deserves more subscribers. I will admit ive missed watching some of your videos, and need to go back and binge watch them. For the meantime stepped away from costuming, I still love it, but i easily get discouraged with the lack of views i get, over how much work ive put in. You clealy work harder at your videos than I and deserve every sub you get. I know you mention some personal circumstances for the delay in your videos, please take as much time as you need, but please continue to post projects your working on. I love watching your videos.

I am making a bustle but I am stuck at the bustle stay stage (the inner piece)... Is it boned ? How does it stay in place ? My bustle keeps it shape at the top bust collapse near the bottom! I can't find anything online 😫
@agelesstailoress
@agelesstailoress Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry you're running into speed bumps 😔 From what I recall the inner piece is not boned. The shape of the bustle is created my the tension the inner piece (that lays against you backside) creates. Based on memory I sewed the inner piece to one side of the bustle, boned the bustle, then jammed in under my sewing machine, using all my force to sew the other side down. The permanently curved the bustle and created its shape. I would also perhaps consider the boning you are using, some boning, like the hoop steel I'm using here is much more springy and holds shape by itself more then others.

Does the pattern have you do the crotch seam in two steps? I’ve never seen that.
@agelesstailoress
@agelesstailoress Жыл бұрын
Yes, from what I remember it has you do up the front and back parts after you sew the pleats then put the legs of the pants inside each other and sew the rest of the crotch seam.

Hello there! I'm looking into old-fashioned skirts (particularly from around this era) for a costuming project, and I wanted to try to be as accurate as I could. Regarding closures, was it normal at the time to use the hook closure that you made, or were there other methods with which skirts were held closed? I hope you don't mind the question and the skirt looks amazing! The fabric is beautiful too!
@agelesstailoress
@agelesstailoress 2 жыл бұрын
Hook and eyes were the main closures method for skirts, they formed a hidden and secure closure. Buttons could also be used as well but they were more often used for more utilitarian clothes, like cycling bloomers or riding split skirts.
