While it is a helpful position to be in at times, I see it too often nowadays. When I was growing up, we covered our near post and stood out ground, usually forcing a shot and the angles were covered and if they wanted to come in close, they and the ball were clobbered. Keepers nowadays look a lot weaker! But I did grow up watching Schumacher and others of that era. They were much tougher and strikers would rarely put the ball btwn our legs or meg us. Just a recent observation.
