Where the club hits the ground is important. Also where the ball hits on the clubface is important. Missing the sweet spot toe or heel just a bit has a big effect on where the ball goes. Mike leaves that up to the student I guess.

I was a cynic until I tried it. It works. I've moved on to MORAD fundamentals now. I really couldnt give a fig about getting max distance or bragging rights about how short an iron I hit to a target. Unfortunately, most golfers obsess with that. You only need to see the videos here and the entire pitch of advertising to see that's true .... but S&T golfers, and those who seek control are a matured "more intelligent" bunch. lol

Hitting the same spot on the ground with every swing, would make anybody a better player. Look at the practice debits of any really good players. They move backwards with a swing and leave a perfect straight line of divots because they’re hitting the ground in front of the ball every time…… if you’re hitting the ball, fat or thin, the stack and tilt method is the answer - - get your weight on your left side swing back move hips forward laterally and your head goes backwards works every time

So what, you are watching UTube you are not a tour player…..S&T allows you to hit the same spot on the ground ahead of the ball ie., ball first like all good players…. pros all get to the left side quickly even though they’re not using the stack and tilt method that’s why they always hit the same spot on the ground each time and compress the ball. Forget about what they do and worry about what amateurs can do it.

This worked really well for me. So much better than thinking about hitting x number of inches behind the ball. Using external focus and giving yourself a task makes things much easier than thinking about where your hands, arms, etc should be during the swing. Thanks.

Is this the same swing that Jim Venetos teaches??
@stephenjohnson80
@stephenjohnson80 6 жыл бұрын
Thomas Gaudet no. Jim teaches a gravity/ moment fed left arm/ side dominant swing. Weight pivoted on left side but there is no rotation of the shoulders. Left arm comes down controlling the club path. Both systems accomplish similar results but jim has a curriculum for the whole game. Both are fun to try.

I have tried S&T. its been good with shorter clubs but as I get to 6 iron and above it just feels awkward.I still hit the ball with good accuracy albeit a bit lower like it's slightly thinned despite feeling uncomfortable with the swing. do you have the hands more forward and move the left hip more with the longer clubs ?

I have tried this and while it does seem to help with fat shots, I can't swing in to out with it. I always cut down across the ball even when I swing far to the inside on the backswing

Try keeping your shoulders square to the ball. You might swing inside to out but if your shoulders are open you could easily slice across it. That is just one of the many reasons why you need much more than just the path.

Why are people always arguing about tour players using S&T? It doesn't matter. They aren't watching these videos. High-handicappers are watching these videos, and simplifying the swing to favor ball-striking consistency above all else is just plain smart.

I think this is a good way to develope a lower back injury, lower back injury is caused by moving the hips away from the target in the backswing and moving the hips towards the target in the downswing.

I Hazzit Its possible that I am misinformed about the stack and tilt, I thought the hips moved away from the target in the backswing causing an axis tilt towards the target. If not then its ok. I have a vulnerable back myself and notice it straight away if I do that move, if I maintain my axis tilt away from target I have no issues.

Tom Saguto Sean Foley has little involvement with Hunter Mahan. Mahan said" I was a good ballstriker when I went to Sean," Rose has dumped Foley. And TIger will never win another major until he changes his swing he will continue to hit the driver left as long he's being taught by Foley. Mike Weir an early advocate for S&T. Remember him ? A Foley comment. "You need to keep 55% of your weight on the left foot '. Not 52% or 58.5% ? Give us a break. When Tom Watson was asked who his golf coach was he said Byron Nelson when asked why he said "I don't take golf lessons from people I can beat". BTW Think Bubba Watson is a S&T guy?

What I caught up most from this is that mike says that the grip, the stance, the posture can't be classified as fundamentals because everyone is doing them differently... Well yes everyone is doing them differently, but listen to what youself said EVERYONE is doing them so they are fundamentals, you cant strike the ball good if you dont have good fundamentals, now they classified hitting the club in the same spot in the ground and hitting the ball further, well you cant do it if you have a bad grip a bad stance and a bad posture, not many guys on tour have bad posture or bad grip, the stance variets, but they are pros for a reson they practice... The average golfer dosen't, so now you take away all the things that makes tour players good and try to teach someting "different" to the average golfer... If tour players need good fundamentals, then at least the average golfder sure does as well...

johngolfi If the tour pros -ie the best ball strikers-are not exhibiting the same characteristics as are commonly taught to the masses in conventional teaching with the standard "fundamentals" of G.A.S.P. then they can't be fundamentals! They can't be fundamentals if they are all different!! The reason they are so good is because they can apply other fundamentals which have been correctly identified by Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer!

Everyone talks about how S$T is losing favor, or it is a bad swing. Sean Foley teaches it and his players are among the best ball strikers on the tour. Aaron Baddeley used it and was as high as 17th in the world, without it he is in the 110 range. Mike and Andy studied the best golfers and put together a list of checkpoints that they thought would make people better and less frustrated.

It works for me. I use s&t from wedge thru 3 wood. No problem with low lofted clubs. Shifting weight to the right on backswing makes it difficult for me to hit solid shot off the turf. For driver, I move the ball more left.

Wrong Tom, none of these used S&T....but they do have one thing in common: The same impact position. The thing is though...they rotated back before they rotated onto it...not "static at it" as S&T suggests. Nicklaus confirms that resistance to hip rotation braced inside/against, a flexed right leg, created leverage to power the downswing through his legs. Shoulder turn does not do much...unless it is resisted by the hips. OOPS. sorry, I forgot...S&T does not do either of these things !.

If anyone advocates S&T, ask them a couple of questions: 1) which Major winner, which multiple winner, has ever used it ?, 2) Specifically, which great player has ever maintained his weight over his left side on the backswing and, again specifically, with the Driver ?. The answer to both is NONE

This is all wrong! On the backswing the key is getting the left hip to move out toward the ball. This will cause you to rise up and therefore give more swing arc and distance to swing down on. At the top of the swing all the weight should be on the inside right heel. Then on the Downswing your shoulders should move laterally along with the hipswhile the right and left knees straighten. I am a great player and this is what I look like on film

He also believes there's a linear connection between weight and distance meaning half the weight=half distance!
