Golf Life Television and Hitgolf.com interview Michael Bennett, the co-inventor of the popular new swing on the PGA Tour, The Stack and Tilt. Bennett and his partner researched golf swings and body mechanics to arrive at this golf swing philosophy that has been very successful with many PGA tour professionals like Dean Wilson, Mike Wier and Arron Baddeley. Why are people always arguing about tour players using S&T? It doesn't matter. They aren't watching these videos. High-handicappers are watching these videos, and simplifying the swing to favor ball-striking consistency above all else is just plain smart.

It works for me. I use s&t from wedge thru 3 wood. No problem with low lofted clubs. Shifting weight to the right on backswing makes it difficult for me to hit solid shot off the turf. For driver, I move the ball more left.

If it wasnt for S&T I wouldve given up on golf. I was tired of how every single instructor teaches the game different even though it is suppose to be the same swing. These guys make it easy to understand and after a bit of practice im hitting ball better than I ever have in my life even when I was a 7 handicap. Those afraid of change and those who are too ignorant to open their minds are missing a great lesson in golf.

I spent the winter converting to this. It's a nice action. I was always a little flat so it wasn't a big change. The biggest change was staying on my front foot. It felt strange at first ( not turning behind the ball ) I have great results on the range and at the pitch and putt close by. I'll see how it works this summer on a full course over 18 holes. What's with all the haters? It may work for some and not for others. Golf isn't a game of robots.

I have tried S&T. its been good with shorter clubs but as I get to 6 iron and above it just feels awkward.I still hit the ball with good accuracy albeit a bit lower like it's slightly thinned despite feeling uncomfortable with the swing. do you have the hands more forward and move the left hip more with the longer clubs ?

@Goodnate96 it really helps to record your swing to pinpoint but some things that might help... Work on pushing your hips forward more, longer. This helps create the tilt of the spine away from the target (not your weight though). Also keep swinging out, longer. Most golfers are taught to "release" the club but end up rolling their wrists and shutting the club face, de lofting it. Check a vid call "drawing the ball," bad audio, good content.

I'm a recreational golfer, and since I've used Stack and Tilt, my swing and game has improved greatly. I figured that I'd try it, and if it didn't work for me, I'd go back to the traditional method (which I will never do now). For all the nay-sayers.....I don't remember anyone saying that everyone has to try this out. If you don't like it, for whatever reason.....DON'T USE IT, AND PLEASE QUIT BITCHING!

Then we disagree on where the weight is at the top of the backswing. I see the weight favoring the left side for most of the pros I see on TV and when I saw them at a few tour events. There is also a video comparing Tiger and Zach Johnson on youtube. I know Zach is not working with Bennett or Plummer, but he does start stacked on the left. The video confirms that at least Tiger favors the weight to his left side at set up with mid/short irons. What players say and do are not always the same.

Everyone talks about how S$T is losing favor, or it is a bad swing. Sean Foley teaches it and his players are among the best ball strikers on the tour. Aaron Baddeley used it and was as high as 17th in the world, without it he is in the 110 range. Mike and Andy studied the best golfers and put together a list of checkpoints that they thought would make people better and less frustrated.

@stuntman206in traditional stack and tilt pattern is punch elbow with square shoulders at impact. Serious question...how are you inline with punch elbow and square shoulders at impact? the baseline is out to the right and it influences big hooks until players learn to compensate for the flawed position. All of the "stack and tilt" guys on PGA tour have elbow infront of the right hip at impact. They dont stack and tilt anymore

I was a cynic until I tried it. It works. I've moved on to MORAD fundamentals now. I really couldnt give a fig about getting max distance or bragging rights about how short an iron I hit to a target. Unfortunately, most golfers obsess with that. You only need to see the videos here and the entire pitch of advertising to see that's true .... but S&T golfers, and those who seek control are a matured "more intelligent" bunch. lol

@helenathena it is hard to see when it is all done at once. In order to stay over the ball you have to stand up, tilt to the left, and rotate your shoulders in a circle. To prove this point, stand in front of a mirror, and set up like you would at address. stand up, tilt to the left, and then turn your shoulders around your body and you will stay centered. People are constantly insulting this swing method with no idea on the principles behind it.Take a lesson from a sandt teacher and u will c

thats actually correct! all these are contributing factors!!! clubhead speed! clubhead mass! so basically what you are saying is if you use the same club and swing at the same speed as another golfer you will hit it exactly the same distance, regardless of how heavy you are, whether you are 6 stone or 16 stone, Do i have this correct?

I have not tried this and dont intend to either, but if your weight is stacked on the left at the top, where does the power come from, traditionally its from the weight shift and clearing of the left hip, ie hip/shoulder separation on the down swing, i dont know it just doesnt look right to me! need more convincing !!

@RandiesUnite I can't decide if your hostility is toward OutlanderWarrior or S&T. Anyway, if you look at the majority of the PGA Tour professionals (take into consideration for camera angles) you will see more weight on the lead side than the trailing side (@ top of the back swing; not during transition) . The majority of current Tour pros have and implement some aspects of S&T. If you know of Mac O'Grady and Mike Bender, S&T should not be new to you. If you disagree, that's fine too.

the distance from your clubhead to your head changes depending on your physicality and club, thats gearing, some people like paul azinger had high gearing, some like ian woosnam had low gearing, funny that cos woosnam was longer than azinger, but he was haevier and created lots of clubhead speed! wonder why that is? mass x velocity perhaps? LOL

Not true, power comes from club head speed and energy transfer from the club head into the golf ball. Mathematical equation is E=1/2Mv(2). In golf this is measured and explained via club head speed and "smash factor" which is a function of energy transfer from the club head into the golf ball. If you notice the power generating parts of the swing itself do not change, the shoulders and hip are still allowed to rotate to generate centrifugal force and club head speed.

Iron Byron? Hmmm...I've been teaching golf for several yrs, and being centered does have it's benefits, however even Hogan maintained a positive spine angle away from the targit in his backswing, verifying a loading into to right side in the backswing! It's simple physics and common sense when watching a pitcher throwing a ball or a boxer throwing a knockout punch, you can't do it from your leading leg. " 2 pivot points creates a natural latural lateral movement from the backleg to the front.

@Snagga2010 Most tour pros are striving to a constant spine inclination to the ground, big difference. If your spine angle didn't change your head would be way behind the ball in the backswing and way ahead in the follow through. You don't think most golfers, who are slicers, would not benefit from a swing model that promotes a draw? You should get the SandT book or get a lesson, least then you could make a valid argument against SandT.

Hitting the same spot on the ground with every swing, would make anybody a better player. Look at the practice debits of any really good players. They move backwards with a swing and leave a perfect straight line of divots because they’re hitting the ground in front of the ball every time…… if you’re hitting the ball, fat or thin, the stack and tilt method is the answer - - get your weight on your left side swing back move hips forward laterally and your head goes backwards works every time

... The one plane swing does the same thing and more efficiently...without creating a reverse C in your back thus straining it... If you set your weight on your lead leg and make that leg, hip, and knee your axis. The results will be the same. Consistent release = straighter, further shots IJS..

Wrong Tom, none of these used S&T....but they do have one thing in common: The same impact position. The thing is though...they rotated back before they rotated onto it...not "static at it" as S&T suggests. Nicklaus confirms that resistance to hip rotation braced inside/against, a flexed right leg, created leverage to power the downswing through his legs. Shoulder turn does not do much...unless it is resisted by the hips. OOPS. sorry, I forgot...S&T does not do either of these things !.

Given all else equal and the only difference being their weight the ball will travel the exact same distance because they're hitting the ball with the exact same force. If Jamie adds 10% body weight in the form of some weights he doesn't hit 10% further! That's simply NOT how it works and that's NOT how you calculate MASS in any way shape or form! This is all wrong! On the backswing the key is getting the left hip to move out toward the ball. This will cause you to rise up and therefore give more swing arc and distance to swing down on. At the top of the swing all the weight should be on the inside right heel. Then on the Downswing your shoulders should move laterally along with the hipswhile the right and left knees straighten. On their site all they do is defend their method by criticizing the traditional method. Apparently Tiger Woods and Greg Norman both had surgery because of the traditional methods........no mention of the fact that they also won 20 Majors with them....

Actually your swing is nothing like this technique! It's the exact opposite and the more traditional wide semi weight transfer swing you're employing by your own account. S&T basically uses rotation to gain club head speed. It requires great flexibility in order to have a swing like Michael Bennett because of the huge shoulder and hip rotation.

@RandiesUnite most of us are not touring professional or professional athletes, so it really doesn't matter. You, me, and 99.9999% of golfers are not as gifted as the touring pro dead last in the rankings. The SandT model is simplified way to strike a golf ball. It promotes keeping weight forward, bc most golfers hit behind the ball. It promotes a slight in to out swing bc most golfers come over the top. It is just another effective way to hit a golf ball.

Not really. they teach a pattern. ou can see from the S&T players on the PGA Tour that they look different. Weir, Badds, Wilson. Similar action but very different.

you don't understand basic physics Jethro, without mas or velocity you cannot have momentum you have to increase any of these factors to increase momentum, JUST one question have you ever swung easy and creamed it miles?

why is a jab less lethal than a straight right?or right cross ? mmmmmm look ill tell you because a jab is from the shoulder! it doesn't use the boxers weight as much! where as a boxer users his full body mass for KO'S and hurter's but you need to know how to get your bodyweight behind the punch! its exactly the same as striking a golf ball!
