You're probably getting tired of me commenting on the old videos, but this topic right here specifically ammo most damning evidence yet against Christianity. Even as a Christian I struggled with the Israel being the apple of the lords eye Mentality. Although being grafted in because of my belief was enough to pacify me for quite some time. Little did I know sitting in those Christian circles, I was silently having my faith ripped apart before I made it official.

I've been watching Alex O'Connor and Joe Folley talk about being an athiest and philosophy and I litterally have to look up half of what they are talking about but it's fascinating! If you could break it down in plain words, like the laws of logic, or the meaning of consciousness, and how its important to think on these things having broken free of religion. For most of my life the profound questions of life have been filled with "the god of the gaps" and now I'm finally using my brain (what's left of it) and musing on these concepts. I need help though and I'm probably not the only one.

You did some on this recently but more on sin. It is “missing the mark” but it also is personified as crouching at the door waiting to devour you. It is blamed for everything bad in the world. There is cancer because of the fallen world due to sin.

I think you’ve done a great job showing just how ridiculous Christianity is when you simply take it on its own terms-for example Romans 9 and God hardening the hearts of people like Pharaoh and how that completely undermines most Christians’ concept of the centrality of free will as an excuse for their theodicy. When I engage these ideas today, it makes me wonder why these so obviously bad ideas ever held such sway with me, and still apparently hold such sway with modern apologists. Perhaps you could try to restore your pre-deconstruction memories and look at these topics with empathetic eyes so we can better understand the people on the other side? What kinds of arguments might be more effective to break the spell and bring them closer to the realization that we have come to?

Could be a lengthy series (and it's something I've been working on in written form only), but I believe perspective could come from tracking human migration/evolution of deities. A great deal of customization has happened throughout human history to create new gods out of already established ones. Customization is a huge thing with religion, especially with modern Christianity - it has led to, I believe, an entirely different deity than Yahweh, even if its the god that led to all this, and by extension a deity different than even Jesus, though the name still remains attached to it.

even after “original sin” why would God need to be satisfied with the smell of burning flesh?? This, in and of itself, says that he has to violate free will for his own pleasure. Even if original sin causes us to have to “kill” and cause harm to others and animals for the sake of our survival, God should have remained outside of that, right?

Plato’s allegory of the cave, and/or when “everything” in science is just our best observations/understandings of the world around us why do we choose the more unlikely outcomes as to what is happening/what is going to happen in real life - aka believing an ultimate being is helping/hindering certain ppl versus random outcomes that possibly would have happened anyways. I would like to see a video on brainwashing and indoctrination. Why is it that people can look at other religions and see how crazy they are, but they cannot critically look at their own religion. I am an Atheist ⚛️ I do not believe in the existence of God. There is no evidence to support the belief in any gods or supernatural entities. I rely on science, reason, logic, and empirical evidence to form my worldview and have not found compelling evidence or arguments to support the existence of God. The universe is governed by natural laws and forces, rather than moral, spiritual, or supernatural ones. As an atheist, I reject religious dogma, supernaturalism, and superstition as the basis of morality and decision-making. I emphasize the social and empirical nature of inquiry and prioritize scientific solutions to intellectual problems. There is an intrinsic intellectual conflict between faith and science, and that it inevitably leads to hostility. I know and respect you have boundaries in terms of discussing and using your personal life so much, but I so long for you to speak more to how you’ve managed nuclear and extended family and friend relationships through your deconstruction, deconversion, and everything since. How does an “unequally yoked” marriage thrive, especially when the other person is so deeply evangelical (or Mormon or Muslim or whatever) and you (or I in my case) are the one that is changing the status quo from when those relationships were formed and vows were taken? This has been the hardest part of my journey. If you can’t share your personal experience out of respect and privacy, perhaps finding more guests to interview would help. You long ago convinced me, and then reinforced and deeply convicted me, that my former belief system was indefensible and harmful. I don’t need as much of that anymore (though if your channel is still growing you’re still helping new [de]converts). But I personally hope you can do more for the “now what” audience who has set down the crisis of introspection, realized the futility of trying to evangelize most relationships not ready to be unplugged from the matrix towards this new position, and now needs help coping with what’s been lost and how to move forward in a productive and happy life, hopefully without (but probably sometimes requiring) a new cast of characters for Act 2. TLDR, more conversations that have the philosophical foundations/reminders but save time for the practical applications with guests like Brit Hartley (thank you so much for introducing me to her content in 2024).

For those of us that grew up fundamentalist I think it's very important to learn nuanced thinking. So maybe a video about how to stop seeing the world through objective black and white morality, but rather to see that things can be complicated and might take some serious thought to navigate. It may be scary that the whole world isn't easily categorized into two boxes at first but it's okay to either acknowledge that something doesn't have an easy answer or even that "I don't know" is an acceptable answer. The entire history of religion seems to be hinged on people's inability to accept the notion of not knowing every answer to the meaning of life.

Regarding the flood story, not only rhe Epic of Gilgamesh, before that there was the Akkadian version and before that, the old Sumerian version. So far we know of three prreserved sources in the Cuneiform script. Furthermorre, the Book of Job also has a predecessor in the Cuneiform script. Mesmerazing

I'd like to see more philosophical content on how a non-believer grounds himself in his morals and how we ought to relate to our Christian traditions. Debunking and critcising religion and bad ideas is vital, but the next series of steps is building a solid foundation for ourselves and, maybe, for the future at large. That being said, you're already on the right track; your brief introduction to Epicureanism was great! Perhaps it would also be valuable to explore other beliefs and their many, many problems -- Hinduism, Islam, spiritualism etc. -- because I know that a lot of atheists/agnostics still have this desire to "subscribe" to something religious or quasi-religiout. Just some of my morning thoughts. You're doing a good job, man, and I hope you keep it up. 👍
