It hasn't a movie about a civil war, it was a movie about war journalism. The point hasn't meant to pick sides or ask questions, just to show what war does to people. Hell, the boogaloo bois were fighting for the "good" side, wouldn't have expected that out of A24

@EriksCorner it's marketing. False advertising I'll grant you. The point is it's vague, a movie less about the war and more about journalism. Still, there are hints. The boogaloo bois in their Hawaiian Ts are fighting federal forces and there is mention (while they're in the stadium) of the main journalists first big hit being an alleged antifa massacre.

This movie is supposed to be an accurate portrayal of a civvillian caught in a civil war in america. Characters dont just explain everything because that's not how people talk. If they did, the other characters would just go "yeah we know that already". The movie would also feel like some formulaic disney crap. The movie gives you so many context clues, alot of it is classic show dont tell. The sniper scene kinda emcapsulates the movie, in a warzone no one is going to answer all your questions about whats going on. Its kill or be killed, and then we'll worry about everything else first. I understand the ambiguity is frustrating, but just because a movie isnt straightforward, doesnt mean its trash.

I personally loved the movie. I went in not expecting anything I only watched it because it had Ron Swanson as president 😂. But yeah throughout the movie they constantly kept tensions high and I also had no idea what was going on. I could be wrong but I believe they were trying to capture the feelings of confusion and helplessness from the average American should a civil war break out. If that’s the case I believe they did it well. I left the theater feeling drained and very somber. Always hear about war and yes while sometimes it’s very necessary most of us don’t actually think about what it means. The thought of Americans killing Americans is a very sad and sombering thing to think about.

Awful movie, glorifying journalists (parasites of the media), one of the most unlikeable protagonists and casts Ive ever seen. Kiersten Dunce just looking like this ☹ the whole time. The movie completely failed to make you care about those two chinese guys eating lead, and then had that sissy crying scene as if we should care that two characters who were in the movie for literally 1 minute died. The overton window is so shifted that normies think this movie was "apolitical" meanwhile you have the snide POC characters berate the president for "disbanding the FBI" which is obviously a dig at Trump, portraying republicans as all the bad guys (the gas station owner dealing with thieves accordingly, the red haired guy who doesnt have time for journalist shenanigans). Thank GOD there was a strong black hero there to save the day! Who wouldve seen that coming in 2024?! Oh and hes fat too? How heckin body positiverino A24! All their movies are just the same cookie cutter format using shit dough.

The film illustrates some of the various personal battlefronts people engage in during a war. Any war. The gas station guy mentioned he had a history with the guy strung up in the car wash. In the serene town, they had rooftop snipers keeping the peace. Out on the road, they found soldiers enforcing their own ideas of “American” racial purity. All of these scenarios, including the sniper vs the unknown gunman were illustrating the crimes, the personal grudges, the insanity that happens during the “fog of war”. This happens all over the world, but we”ve probably only experienced here in the States during our Civil War. This isn’t a movie that spoon feeds you the answers; you have to connect some dots on your own. The President’s speech at the beginning turns out to be all lies. We learn it’s his 3rd term in office, which isn’t legal, so he’s already used some illegal means to stay in power. And apparently he’s so bad, California & Texas have found common ground. The main story is about a photojournalist who has seen all terrors of war in other countries finally come to her own backyard and how she passes the torch of her job to a new generation. You seem more comfortable every question having a correct A or B answer, and I can see why this movie would frustrate you. Look at the film as a dysfunctional family. The Dad is abusive, but some family members support him while others attack him. Still others try and ignore him, living under the radar.

Modern audiences are unable to dive deeper into movies anymore. It’s why we get so much trash nowadays. Civil War was fantastic and I don’t think it’s a play on our current political culture, and I also felt like we watched it through the lens of journalism. They aren’t supposed to take sides and just state the facts. They often have a goal and that is to get the most important stories. We don’t need to know all about the backstory, either. It’s clear if you just watch the movie that the president was being tyrannical and two states succeeded over it. Also, there is so much empty space in your video and it’s a horrible vain attempt to look artistic.

Okay man. The movie was an A24, which that firm is known for making movies which have little in the way of exposition. Understanding an A24 movie involves looking at the subtext. It is two things: 1.) a love story for war journalists specifically and journalists in general 2.) an anti-Trump passion play. The whole “was it wise to disband the FBI?” Line is a clue on that.

Every right-winger hates this movie. And, they all give the following reasons: 1) It's too vague. We don't know how it all started. We don't know who we're rooting for. 2) Under a thin veil, it's about Trump. So, if the movie is so vague, yet you're self-aware enough to identify with the dictator so closely without the movie steering you in that direction, that says more about MAGAs acknowledging their fascist tendencies than anything.
