does anyone know what the scene in the movie with the sculpture that was found in the water was for? Unless my memory is really bad, there wasnt anything like that in the book and the significance was not really clear for me and seemed quite random. The handshaking with the arm of the sculpture was cute though

off course its sad that so many great parts of the story like vimini and the poet didnt make the movie, but I still think that the alterations for the movie were all amazing and necessary, and really made the movie just as good as the book, which is rare with bookadaptions. It conveys the emotions of longing, passion and grief extaordinary well and I also thought the songs by sufjan stevens were so beautiful and fitting for the characters.

That scene in reverse colour - climbing the war monument, and Elio's cousin laughing: I took it to mean Oliver imagining the public hostility, and a feeling of doing something shameful, if they were to continue their relationship. Thoughts?

Going into lord of the flies I had really low expectations because of what I've heard about it so far. I am so pleasantly surprised at what a potent critique of society it is actually. The characters are just kids imitating what they've seen adults do.

His "music" was a joke from day 1. I do not know a better lie than the "beliebers" whom were a thing 10-15 years ago were 1. listening to his oh such an artistically ambitious song "yummy yummy" 2. understanding that it is the most embarrassing tune they thought he could make 3. inventing a theory about oh, but it has a deep meaning into it. Well, it didn´t. I am so glad we got rid of his stupid stardom, finally. I love Swities anytime, at least that woman has talent and class and she is smart. The young of today dont even know who Justin Bieber is. He was good using his whiny voice but after all ended up showing he has no talent for songwriting and he was exposed to be a good ol narcissist. I am happy he is gone. He has all the money in the world to live for the rest of his life in luxury.

the nazis exterminated more than jews. they also went after roma, black people, disabled people, homosexuals, etc. my point being, he was among those persecuted by the nazis because he had chosen to be openly gay at a time when most countries had laws targeting homosexuals. Way before he was executed, he let it be fucking known that homosexuals are not cowards.😊

Excellent review. The only thing in the 64 movie that grates with me is Dick Van Dyke's cockney accent. As an East Londoner take my word for it; it's dreadful! Otherwise the film is a masterpiece. It creates a wonderful story without much to work on from the books, the main theme for me being a neglectful, repressed father (who is a very minor character in the books) who realises just in time Poppins is right. Add to that some great songs, from the uplifting Fly A Kite to the poignant Feed The Birds, world class acting, particularly David Tomlinson's Mr Banks, and one of the greatest dance sequences in cinematic history, Step In Time, and you have a movie that should be near the top of everyone's best ever list. Ps don't ask me about the Emily Blunt movie. I haven't seen it and have no intention of doing so.

Perhaps it's a difference between British and American upbringing, but as a child I disliked Mary Poppins in the books - it was hard for me as a kid to accept or understand that an adult could act cold and unfriendly to kids and still somehow love them. It's still hard for me to accept that approach from real people as an adult. Also that the kids in the books are always bratty and need her to correct them. Which is why I admire Julie Andrews' performance so much - even when she's a little sarcastic with the kids ("You know best, as usual") she does it so casually it slips past you and doesn't feel cruel. But then, on film it's easier than in a book to see when a character is hiding something.

I absolutely LOVE the third, way better than the second in my opinion, lol. The Scream series is one of my favorite of all time. I love every single one. Current rank is 1, 3, 5, 6, 4, 2? I think. 6/4 are pretty much tied. I loved the killer reveal/reason in 6, but 5 is ranked above it just because it was so so clever. Brought in a lot of the reasons number 1 was so good to begin with, with the characters being extremely clever and lots of call backs to the original. Just...ahhh...the series is so good. I might rewatch them actually now after seeing this, lol.

@@thekylemarshall_ It is a good reveal. My main gripe is that they barely showed Mikey in scenes, so it kind of felt a little too obvious? Even after all this time, a few of the emotional beats toward the end reduce me to uncontrolled sobbing *every* time. On an unrelated-well, animated film-note, have you seen Nimona yet? @@thekylemarshall_ My favorite is Blood Punch (2014), because it manages to pack a couple of different twists in there, and then after that I'd have to say Naked, because it manages to be pretty heartwarming, kinda like the Hallmark movie of Time Loops (I haven't seen the original Swedish film). Not a movie, but Russian Doll season 1 (and two!) is obviously amazing too... ARQ was an interesting movie and I liked that the (spoilers) main characters stayed in the time loop at the end. I wonder what that phenomenon was called before the Groundhog's Day effect as the movie made that phrase. I like the idea of Bill Murray doing this loop for hundreds of years as Harold Ramis intended but I understand why that part got changed. Leaving the exact number of loops or time vague keeps it light hearted.

Someone must have done the research into the history of time loops. I can’t believe that Groundhog Day was the first. But that is how everyone describes it now. And totally agree.
