How freezing is it at your location during the winter? If done following your list, minus degrees will not hurt the engine at all then? Seems like a much quicker way of winterization than conservations of the complete engine with anti-freeze fluids etc 👍🏻 You never had issues in the spring doing like this as I can read in the comments? 🤠 🫱🏻‍🫲🏻 🤠 👍🏻 Storing the fuel tank full or drained as well? thank you for a great video. I am just like you. We both do the same things. I also have my half above ground pool-2 feet in ground and 2 feet above. I also did not know what I was doing for many years. I was adding powder shock etc etc. But then AI found a site called Trouble Free Pool (TFP) and they really talked me through a lot of the correct ways to maintain a pool. Now all I add on a daily basis as well is Chlorine from Walmart also abut $5.20 per gallon. I also check pH about once per week and CYA like about every 3 weeks or so. Along with TA. I have been following TFP now for 2 years and I only had to add Muriatic acid twice over that period. And a little chlorine stabilizer when the CYA dropped a bit too low. When I first met TFP my CYA was well over 100 also but I was adding so much GREEN OUT shock powder that even though my pool looked clean- the chemicals were out of whack. I drained half the pool and refilled separately and now I am pristine clean and balanced. My question for you-is- when do you close your pool? I live in Long Island NY and from the first week of September it gets real cool in the morning. My pool gets pretty cool from here on in. So, I close the pool MID September, and I slam the pool with lots of bleach to keep it good until May 31 st of the next year. This year was my first opening since meeting TFP and when I opened the pool- it looked great and was pretty well balanced. Do you have a heater for your pool? I ama thinking of getting one. We had a gas heater a long time ago but the water being unbalanced destroyed the elements inside the heater. I am wondering about the difference between a Heater PUMP type of unit or getting a gas heater again. TFP says to get a gas heater since we already have the gas line installed. Any ideas? I also muse the pool math ap- really simple and you can log your results for the TFP to see and help with.

TFP is a cult. “I follow the tfp method and never get algae!” Neither does anyone else that uses 5 times the amount of chlorine than necessary. The TFP method is to get you to stand on the edge of your pool and throw money into it. I would bet anything that TFP could be traced to DuPont chemicals or advocacy group for the swimming pool industry. These people are lying snakes with an ulterior motive. They falsely claim that you cannot use sodium bromide algaecide in a chlorine pool because it will forever convert it to a bromine pool. This is bullshit. I just did it and within a day and a half, all the bromides had degraded to bromate and all chlorine consumption by the bromine stopped. And it worked much, much better than their method of maintaining 30 ppm chlorine for day after day. One night with 2 pounds burnout73 and 10 oz of yellowtrine worked ten times better than three days of 30 ppm chlorine to get rid of yellow algae. So figuring they’d be happy to hear that sodium bromide works great and causes no problems at the levels used for algaecide, I posted what I learned on their forum. The moderator immediately contacted me and gave me a warning about “attacking tfp methods” and gave me 4 demerits like I’m in kindergarten again. Then every other lowlife tfp salesman on the site tried to discredit me. It’s like I was a revolutionary and I just wanted to tell other pools owners that bromide works great and causes no problems when used as directed.. Then they banned me for questioning why they were so determined to prevent people from knowing sodium bromide algaecide works. I don’t know why, but these people are determined to get people to increase their chlorine consumption by 4-500%. Instead of 1.5-3 ppm chlorine, they want you to aim for a minimum of 8ppm. Instead of doing normal shock levels supplemented with 4 oz sodium bromide for every 10k gallons of water they want you to spend over 100 bucks on a fas dpd test kit, get the chlorine ppm up to 30 ppm and maintain it for days to a week and then permanently jack up your chlorine use by 500% above recommended levels. The way they attacked me for just sharing a tip shows these people have an ulterior motive.

Are there people who use the TFB method but use the chlorine pucks and supplement?
@brandonkick
@brandonkick 6 ай бұрын
The only reason you do not want to use the pucks is that they are almost always stablized. In other words, they have stablizer in them. Now, don't get me wrong. You DO need stablizer in your pool. But if you get too much, it's just as bad (or worse even) as not having enough stablizer. The stablizer (CYA) plays the role of protecting your chlorine from sunlight. Without stablizer, the half life of chlorine in sun exposure is very very short. Hours at best. BUT as stablizer increases, it also diminishes the ability of the chlorine to do it's job. So you need higher chlorine levels. At a certain point, if stalbizer levels get high enough, they make it so the chlorine just CANT do it's job. So you need a nice balance, a good range of CYA. Usually for most non salt pools you want around 30 ppm to 40 ppm of CYA. And then your daily "swimming level" chlorine targets are going to be around 5 ppm to 7 ppm. All that is to say, if you use the pucks on a prolonged basis... each day your CYA level will build little by little. At a point, once it starts getting to 70 ppm, 80 ppm... 100ppm.... you will have to drain your pool some and put fresh water in to dilute out the CYA. For that reason, I use calcium hypochlorite.
@MikeZimmermanOfficial
@MikeZimmermanOfficial 6 ай бұрын
I still use pucks here and there, mainly when I'm gone on vacation, but as @brandonkick explained they slowly increase your CYA level so that's why I avoid them. There are pucks out there that don't have stabilizer in them, but they're much more costly than just using liquid chlorine.
@jimbeam-ru1my
@jimbeam-ru1my 5 ай бұрын
@@brandonkick "chlorine targets are going to be around 5 ppm to 7 ppm. " 5 to 7 ppm is a low chlorine range for TFP. If you have 60 ppm CYA then they want you to use 5-9ppm. According to TFP, the CDC is full of shit when they say chlorine levels above 6 ppm are unsafe. But then TFP is a "product awareness" outreach by the chlorine manufacturing industry with the goal of drastically increasing chlorine usage by ignorant homeowners trying to maintain their pools but too lazy to learn how. Like this guys claims about the pucks constantly raising CYA. CYA needs to be constantly replenished because it degrades just like everything else. The pucks don't raise the CYA level, they maintain it. However, since TFP is a con for ignorant homeowners that use trichlor or dichlor to shock their pools, which has cya in it, they convince them that it's the pucks raising the CYA, not using the wrong kind of chlorine. "The only reason you do not want to use the pucks is that they are almost always stablized. " No, that's the reason you do want to use pucks. Maintaining cya is part of their job.
@KipCount
@KipCount 6 ай бұрын
Nice overview. I've also adopted the TFP method after using pucks for years and sort of blindly stumbling my way through with test strips, running into issues and never full understanding why. My first impression of TFP was that it was complicated, but after understanding it better, it quickly becomes obvious that this IS the easy way.

What would that math look I need help with TA AND CH-don’t understand the directions
@polsksm1
@polsksm1 6 ай бұрын
If you use 10ml sample, use one heaping scoop or two smaller scoops. Swirl to mix. Add drops of 0871 counting and swirling as you go until the water turns clear. Divide number of drops by 2 to get FC. So for example if it takes 10 drops to turn the water clear, your FC is 5ppm. I use 25ml personally because it is more accurate/precise. Probably not necessary and you'll go through more reagent, but I feel more comfortable with the results. In that case, 25ml + 2 scoops of powder. Then 0871 until clear. This time you divide the number of drops by 5. You can do it in your head if you divide by 10 and double it. So for example if it takes 17 drops to turn the water clear, that means you have FC of 3.4ppm (17/10=1.7 ... 1.7*2=3.4). As far as the swirling goes, do yourself a favor and buy the taylor magnetic stirrer. It makes theses tests 1000% easier since it does all the swirling for you (and does a better job of it too). Oh and visit troublefreepool.com! Tons of information and very friendly/knowledgeable people who can help you with any questions you might have.

@MikeZimmermanOfficial 6 ай бұрын
Not sure why anyone would use the 25ml mark, but you're correct. When using the 10mL mark, divide the number of drops you put in to turn from pink to clear, and that's your FC ppm.

I recently decided to take over the maintenance of our pool. We had a pool service for over 3 years but since installing cameras around the house got to see that our pool guy really didn’t do much other than place chlorine tabs in the skimmer which, I learned is also bad in itself. Well…what I discovered after learning to test my water is that our pool was not balanced at all and our CYA was well over 200. I’m in CA so we always have our pool open. I had to completely drain and refill to start from scratch. I came across trouble free pools forum and now my pool chemistry is balanced. Using just liquid chlorine and muriatic acid after the initial refilling of the pool. Like you said, the trouble free pool method is very easy and my pool looks great! Thanks for sharing.

Fired his pool service and had to completely drain his pool soon after only to refill his pool and use so much chlorine that he could have just left the 200ppm cya water in. Now he's spending more on chlorine than it cost him to pay a pool service, and he has to maintain the pool himself. And the excess chlorine shortens the lifespan of his pool TFP is the product outreach arm of the chlorine manufacturing industry and their whole goal is to shift public perception to drastically raise chlorine consumption. The people that use the TFP method are homeowners that wanted to maintain their own pool but didn't have the time or patience to learn to do it correctly so TFP swooped in and got them to use five times the chorine they should use because no matter how bad you are at maintaining a pool, nothing's growing in a pool with that much chlorine in it, so the homeowners think it's working but don't understand the side effects of too much chlorine.

First timer. Thanks for this; alleviated all the uncertainty. Would suggest also doing the following: 1) Remove V-drive water drain plug. A lot of water came out. 2) Disconnect the starboard side v-drive hose, not port side. SBoard side will drain from the impeller. (So you don’t need to struggle with that hard to reach impeller hose). 3) Lastly, run the bilge. 1.5 pails of water were collected. Will reduce chance of mold & mildew.

Do you know where the water drain plug for these ZF v drive is? First timer too… I can’t seem to find it, there’s one big plug down there but isn’t that the drain for the trans oil??

Do you have to use the 12v to 5v reducer if you just connect using the USB directly ?

No, you wouldn't need to if you plug it into a USB port.
