The late ZX10 stuff makes great HP in the upper RPM range, however they are absolute dogs when it comes to making Torque in the lower RPM range.
@MantisRacing14 күн бұрын
I know. Eventually I’m hoping the 19 engine has better mid range. It screams at the top!
@montecrawford150214 күн бұрын
@@MantisRacing I've built thousands of airboxs using billet aluminum velocity stacks for the sportbike motors used in short track racing. The Gen1 + 2 make great power over a wide RPM range, however if your looking to improve the torque on the late stuff, you got to make some serious changes.

If IAP is suppose to be low load cruising why isnt target afr 14.7 which the stoich amount. What cruising suppose to be. Running richer just waste gas. Is IAP not the cruising map?
@MantisRacing23 күн бұрын
I don't target 14.7 because air flow is not actually measured. As engine temp, air temp, humidity, atmospheric pressure changes the air mixture changes. Setting it to 14.7 will cause lean spots in some situations. Also, around 14 the throttle response is much better.
@GregQuillen23 күн бұрын
@MantisRacing guess motorcycles don't have all the sensors so the computer can't adjust for everything.

@MantisRacing I have a place in trying to get to tune my bike but they don't answer or call back lol. I have tuned cars. Trying to learn bikes. Some h2 guys online said to tune myself with auto tune
@MantisRacing23 күн бұрын
@@GregQuillen yes, do it with autotune. Tuning a bike is much easier there is no true airflow or density measurement and no feedback. But if you run it a little rich at cruise and idle it will run fine. Just remember to blend from cruise to WOT and choose a richer setting over a lean setting.

Great video mate...I'll have to look into some of the things tou mentioned...my main issue is that when I'm cruising along, if I accidentally touch the gear selector a little the bike revs and moves forward while the throttle is closed...is this what you mean when you say it tends to want to drive itself into the corner???does yours move forward when you touch the gear lever slightly?
@MantisRacingАй бұрын
If I remember correctly it was missed shifts or the blipping driving into the corner. If I blipped with braking it did not do this.

lol you’re reflecting + trapping heat INSIDE your airbox AND restricting your airflow. You should be losing power… The heat tape goes on the OUTSIDE of the airbox reflecting heat away (not in).

What helped me was my CFI telling me to “try not to land the plane”. That with transitioning my eyes down to the end of the runway as I crossed over my aiming point. Maintain your airspeed and don’t forget pitch for speed and throttle for altitude. To high: reduce throttle. To slow: push nose over. Keep up the good work!

fly less steep approaches aim for the numbers instead of thousand footers, keep the speed up 65-70 and have a slightly more extended and nose up flare and try to drag it to the thousand footers, your approach at 6 minutes was good up until the point you forgot to flare
@MantisRacing4 ай бұрын
Thanks for this. Another CFI and I had a conversation after a flight and I finally grasped why / how my slow airspeed was affecting my approach. Also I realized I was trying to round out and flare at once.

I'm 57 and just went through this over the last 3 years. Keep at it. It gets much easier. The stuff that's taking 90% of your focus now will take only 10% and you'll have enough brain space to finesse the stuff that probably seems impossible right now, like maintaining the centerline all the way to stop, touching the wheels down at your intended touchdown point, and keeping exactly the right pattern altitude and speeds on downwind, base and final. Good luck!

Thanks for commenting. I always heard sportbikes are the closest thing to flying. I do agree with that, but sportbike riders need to imagine riding and maintaining direction where the tires have zero grip and gravity doesn't exist to hold you planted. Uphill or downhill at Road Atlanta, great..... now do it where the track disappears and all you have are the controls given to you.

How would you compare the gsxr1000R to the ZX10R . Handling , power etc!!!
@MantisRacing5 ай бұрын
I haven't been riding like I used to so these are quick thoughts from memory GSXR has more low and mid, Zx10 is a top end bike. ZX10 is a smoother engine. GSXR does not have a counter shaft GSXR feels smaller than the 10 ZX10 is very stable, it has the geometry for this. GSXR from the factory is more nimble, but also more prone to shake on the front. GSXR, other than the vibration is probably the better street bike. It has more torque low to mid, it turns in quicker. On the track as you get faster the rear shock has to go. Overall, I would say own the bike you like best. Both can be modified to fit the role you want.
