They are my favorite compared to the old KEFs 103 which were also made in the UK. The new KEF’s are made in China. Although China has state of the art factories, still not as good as the UK

What Is the quality of the cross over parts AND the drivers in the A7 and can they be switched out for better without hassle? I think its reasonable to assume that if these were upgraded it would be well worth it. Cross over parts quality is critical, but good cross over parts can be many hundreds.

I can do everything I need to with IIR and digital delay where required in an active system just using REW, JRMC and a multi-channel Focusrite DAC. No need to waste money on DEQX. If there were a need to go FIR it too could be done with convolution on the PC without DEQX. I just can't see why anyone would want this stuff which will become obsolete in one or two years whereupon he will call it "legacy"!

Mark is one of the smartest most humble people in the audio industry. I spent half my time at the Sydney hifi show in audio ecstacy with the Nirvana Sound dream system. One million dollars this system cost. Mark is a genius story teller who has also a formidable knowledge of hifi in general. The only question he could not answer was ...what are this week's lotto numbers? Lol. This incredible system is that good that after spending 3 hours on an otherwise other train journey due to delays ...my adhd kicking hard.. 3 songs from Dire Straits on the Dohmann Helix one centred my universe ...its that bloody good. Besides the incredible turntable made in Melbourne Duntech and Halcro products featured here. Also Ypsilons mind blowing phono stage and a Cessaro preamp and some very serious cables were delivering the goods. This is hifi at the highest level. Clarity Space Dynamics Soundstage and depth in spades. At a Dohmann masteclass years ago he stated music should explode out of the grooves.....here indeed it did. Buy anything Mark Dohmann sells with absolute confidence. It's the people behind these products that really enhance their value. Great interview.

I love Linn products but why does this guy insist on saying....'handbuilt in the factory in Glasgow'....they've not had a factory in Glasgow for a long, long time....used to be in Castlemilk.....it's now in Waterfoot....a few miles outside of Glasgow in East Renfrewshire....he should really get the basic facts right. Also, the video is really boring.

I'd LOVE to hear them, I've never even seen them. Having done Mechanical Design for over 40 years (aerospace, weapons, injection molded plastic consumer products, etc.) the fundamentals behind this are intriguing. I'm thinking about designing my own speakers as I near retirement. I might cast the box out of 3D printed wax in the lost wax process, that way a lot of the manufacturing limitations are taken out. My fave speakers were always Infinities, for that Emit tweeter, and I've owned a set in the car audio system I built (separates) and loved them, and ALMOST bought a set of Kappa 9's ($1,500/pr(!!!) in the early '90's from a dealer that just wanted to get them out of the showroom!) but I didn't have an amp capable of driving them. I DID get a chance to listen to the Infinity IRS V in PS Audio's room in Boulder CO (lived near there) and that, by far, is the most amazing set of speakers I've ever heard. I think if I hit the lotto I'd buy a set of the latest Genesis Prime's....but I'd certainly love to hear these!

I wonder how these speakers would sound, made from large block of aluminum block, using a CNC machine to cut it out?

@@StereoNET you probably could use a sand 3-D printer, to print the interior, to cast aluminum over it. Then just break it out when you’re done.

@rentabomb points to the importance of ‘off-axis’ performance, which is a feature of ‘DEQX active’ speakers that we didn’t discus in the interview. One of our early trade show party tricks was to rotate a speaker 90 and even 180 degrees off-axis to demonstrate its natural frequency distribution into a room. This is achieved by quarantining bass and midrange drivers to only output their ‘comfort zone’ omnidirectional frequencies before higher frequencies get a chance to ‘beam’ forward at the expense of natural off-axis dispersion. Very steep crossover filters are required to do this, such as 60dB to 90dB/octave, which in our case maintain linear-phase to avoid crossover distortion. When off-axis frequencies are unevenly dispersed into the room a realistic 3D soundstage is diminished. An inherently even dispersion allows us to use a single (or very few) on-axis measurement/s to achieve the least compromised phase accuracy for the most dominant direct sound. Any issue of pre-ringing is moot as we use patented low-latency Impulse-response filtering rather than traditional FIR (Finite Impulse Response). Stereophile’s John Atkinson acknowledged pre-ringing was not seen in his measurements of a legacy PreMate model. www.stereophile.com/content/allnic-d-5000-dht-da-processor-measurements-0
@rentabomb
@rentabomb 7 ай бұрын
What he never tells you is the off axis response between drivers never matches the on-axis so when you optimize for on-axis response your off axis response usually suffers badly and you don't get the impulse response ringing cancellation that you get on-axis. They've been peddling this flaw for years which is probably why they never sell a complete speaker system with it.
@Canadian_Eh_I
@Canadian_Eh_I 3 ай бұрын
You are right and wrong. You are right that speakers are a 3 dimensional problem and we must deal with the off axis response. But having active makes achieving this goal alot easier if you know what youre doing.
@rentabomb
@rentabomb 3 ай бұрын
@@Canadian_Eh_I I am right. You can't optimize on all axes. It's a physical impossibility no matter how much DSP you throw at the problem. Optimizing group delay on one axis will surely screw up the other axes.

Interesting, I am looking into a loudspeaker system, the Sun Audio Purified 4. It has Purifi 4 inch drivers and Bliesma tweeters, and needs an external crossover and power amps to drive them. I was thinking of the miniDSP Flex 8 processor. Would the DEQX audibly outperform the miniDSP Flex 8 processor?
