Great job on the timing. Is your engine a 2.7 ltre?... my mag is the same but came in 1977. whats the cam setting you used on each side. I do have the wayne demsay book. Also you mentioned about the cis fuel distributor I had clogged fuel tiny filters that sit up in the crown of the distributor. Check for thoses as they can block up the lines. Watch out for the centre pin it justs sits there under the centre crown of the distributor...good luck. cheers.
@afternoongarage3 күн бұрын
Firstly, great questions and comments from you. Yes this is a 1974 2.7L. The spec for timing shows 0.7mm-0.9mm for a 1974 2.7L. As you can see I tried to set it at 0.8mm. I have some videos coming up that will shed some light on fuel system clogging with debris. My plunger in the fuel distributor was frozen and I just about had to take it apart to free it. I had to soak the distributor and use some compressed air, but it came loose after a couple days. Don't want that thing dropping out and fall on the floor for sure. Thanks for subscribing, it really helps me out and motivates me to keep making more videos!

Just have machine shop resurface the head.. you dont need a new head...
@afternoongarage4 күн бұрын
Not sure how that would work as it was binding when everything was tight. Any cutting on the sealing surface would certainly affect cylinder and overall head height. I did the right thing by not working with a warped head. Also, if you have been watching my channel, I refuse to have anyone do any labor for me as people always fail to perform or even sell parts that aren't even usable. Just look at the 'used' parts I got from Einmalig. That was disgusting.

Thanks for posting. Wow that was a learning curve for you. Will be so helpful for your viewers. Keep up the great videos. Looking forward to next weeks release
@afternoongarage8 күн бұрын
To be honest, I panicked when everything started binding. Just loosening the head nuts fixed it right away so I knew it was nothing major and just cylinder/deck height was uneven. If I had it to do again, I think I would have at least sent the case out for deck surfacing. Although many have a different opinion, for a stock 2.7L I think 1mm clearance was the right thing to do. I have some really good learning with this and when we get into the injectors, I really find something interesting. So keep watching!

Great job on getting the cams and towers to line up. I will be doing my mag case soon which your videos always helps. PS what cam tool are you using? I was thinking of getting the skomski special 2 in one cam tool. But its expensive. cheers
@afternoongarage9 күн бұрын
Yeah, I think I would have assembled it dry the first time if I knew there were going to be issues. Glad to help, I enjoy making these videos. I use a regular z block cam tool with the dial indicator extension. You can get these using searching the tool number, P207. Should be able to get the block and the extension for a hundred bucks. I looked at the stomski tool and that looks like that would work pretty well also. Thanks for subscribing!

Yeah, sometimes new parts are the only way to go and they work. I spent roughly $700 with used parts and machine shop time. I will be posting one video a week for a while so we can get this 2.7 back together. Thanks for watching!

I’m debating on not even installing the passenger mirror. Seems like it makes it unique.
@afternoongarage16 күн бұрын
Yeah I get that. I like the single chrome mirror like on my air cooled early 911. With the body color matching flag mirrors, I like both installed. Also, I really like having the rear view it provides. If you do plan to install one, check out the Facebook page for the template to drill the holes in the correct place. Thanks for watching!

I've done this task before, but my hands must have gotten fat. I agree with @jasonagrelius6658 Its the left front strut that is difficult to do. My seat got trashed by a homeless freak who dropped a burning cigarette on it. I ask an upholsterer to pull the fabric together to hide the burn below. He then stitched a seam to hold it, then did the same thing to the other seat so that they match. He charged $100.

Okay so l re-watched the video. Great tip on the string. Did you put the string in before placing the window or once you layed it in place? Yes sometimes it pays to use the manufacturer for certain parts. So on the trim, did they send you a left and a right or two of the same? I would say their packaging was not the best way. Cheers
@afternoongarageАй бұрын
Yes, I didn't get the video clip where I put the rope in the channel of the gasket. I have another video this week that shows this. I got the trim through eeuroparts and they have overstock parts. Not sure why I got two right side pieces of trim. It is possible to bend a right to fit the left side, as I did. They really twist these up to ship them and no matter what you get, you will need to reshape them. Thanks for watching!

Hey buddy! I have been watching your channel, you do lots of interesting cars. This really isn't that difficult, but I'd say the takeaway is the adhesive I am using. Update as of 8/12/2024: I parked the car for about a year after putting in OE delco non-LSD fluid and LS additive. Upon driving the car recently, it was clicking in turns. I purchased "ACDelco GM Original Equipment 10-4034 Dexron LS 75W-90 Gear Oil" from Amazon. 2 quarts. This is a premix with LS additive in it. Solved the problem immediately. Not sure why this happened, other than maybe I didn't drive the car enough to distribute the additive. I have also heard some say when they use the OE Delco fluid and additive, they will mix the contents in a bucket first before adding to the differential. Something to think about. But... the LS gear oil I am using now is good.

Just removed an older Pioneer 7" display unit dated 2016 in my 08 GXP that I could only connect to it with bluetooth, when I pulled the unit out it was a rats nest in there, whoever had just whack off the connectors and ran a cable with 16 gauge 10 conductor wire, only 8 were connected for the 4 speakers and no sub, so I cleaned all if it up and connected the new units harness to the 8 wires in the back in to the big 10 conductor cable, I had a hellva time finding the correct SWC wires on the old cut harness to reconnect to the head unit, didn't need the old Axxess SWC unit that was connected and didn't work on the Pioneer. All connected back up and it sounds good even without the sub and the SWC work correctly as the new head unit has connections to connect directly and map the buttons to anything I like. The new ATOTO F7WE unit does Android wireless and it works perfect, that's the whole reason for the change out so I could have Waze and Pandora from my phone and it automatically connects when I get in the car. I'll one day get around to maybe reconnecting the sub.
