Would you be able to do a carving demo of some of your Pokémon work? Like something easy like togepi or pikachu I would die to do what you do. Like a tutorial on how you do projects like that would be so cool.

I carve wooden balls as a hobby. I make 45mm diameter balls, two fit nicely into my palm to use as qi gong balls. I use a metal ring to guide me, and it has 46mm hole, so I have enough material for sanding, and I bring it down to 45mm by sanding. I use a similar process, first carve a cylinder, then I carve another from the side then a 3rd one from he side perpendicular to the 2nd one, so I end up with a somewhat spherical object with 8 peaks. Carve down the peaks, then I fine tune the ball till it does fit through my ring any way.

Take it to the next level with this Marvelous book; Woodcarving Magic by Bjarne Jespersen. Amazon has it. I'm talkin 5levels of spheres within spheres. It is truly amazing, with great step by step guides. I mention this because you probably have experience that is similar to our Swedish fiend in the book. I promise, just look at the cover art, I've gotten to level 3. Many hours. Genesis

Thank for this video. Was asked to carve some wooden balls and spoons for a children's bare-foot-obstacle-course. The course has to been navigated with the spoon in hand while keeping the ball on the spoon the whole time. Spoons, I make all the time but a round ball was my first. Went the geometric route instead of the cylinder and i think the cylinder is easier to keep track of where you are (as in how much is there still to cut away). The technique for feeling the high-points and knocking them down works very well. Made three knife-handles with it by starting with a rectangular piece; holding it in your hand like you would use it as a handle; noticing the sharp corners and everything that didn't feel comfortable to my hand and cut that bit off; rinse repeat. After a few thousand fittings and cuttings, ended up with knife-handles that perfectly fit my left hand.

Maybe you can help me, I'm trying to figure out how to inlay a tear drop shaped object into a peice of ebony wood as a gift for my wife. Normally im a power tool guy, but im stuck on this. Im worried a power yool even a Dremel wont be edge accurate for this odd 3d shaped inlay. im setting a peice of lapis into a square of ebony the top center of a jewelry box made of olive wood. But i am stuck on how to do it. The ebony is square so no problems on that i can use my router table to get that to a flawless fit... But thats why i chose that way in addition of the nice contrast i hope to get between the light olive wood and the dark ebony and the lapis

I would suggest using tools that have received the most reviews. Just like with art, the issue is not the painter but the brushes and paints. If you want to achieve excellent results quickly, don't limit yourself to the 'beginner' section..

I LOVE that you carved the hat separately! Most other carving videos that include a hat on a character always carve the hat out of the same solid piece as the figure and that irks me for some reason lol

Fantastic video thanks for showing every step so clearly. Is there anything wrong in just a layer or two of wax furniture polish as a sealant. I used to use that on my pyrography. Im senitive to smells and spray varnish is too much for me.

The "it's a condom for your knives" line made me giggle and got a sub from me. Great video and an easy solution I didn't think of. Eventually I'll probably make some small leather sheaths, but this is great for a quick and dirty cover.
