There are many Panasonic cameras that have more features than Olympus which are considerably cheaper. Clearly you're an Olympus fanboy cause even there lenses are more expensive compared to Panasonic ones.

I currently work with the OM-1 MK II alongside my Sony full-frame gear. Both systems have their merits, but it's important to recognize the inherent relationship between crop factor, focal length, and aperture - this affects not only image characteristics but also the price and size of equipment, which are dictated by physics. If you’re comfortable with the trade-offs, such as a smaller aperture, greater depth of field, and increased noise, crop sensor systems can offer significant advantages in terms of affordability and portability. Ultimately, it’s not just about the sensor size but the synergy between sensor and lens that defines photographic outcomes. See this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGbdf2mEi91gnrs Noise isn't about pixel size, it depends on the signal-to-noise ratio, which is determined by how much light (signal) is captured versus the inherent noise in the camera. Larger sensors, regardless of pixel density, collect more light due to their size, giving them an advantage in terms of signal-to-noise ratio. However, when factoring in aperture and crop, this can equalize. For example, a 300mm f/2 lens on a crop sensor provides the same SNR as a 600mm f/4 on a full-frame sensor, resulting in the same noise and shutter speed. The OM-1 MK II's base ISO is 200 and you can't get less noise that this on the camera, however, my Sony full-frame gear, at the same base ISO of 200 captures four times the light at any given shutter speed and aperture (exposure) and gets lower noise levels. See this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jISponakr66Yb68

When taking Macro or even only close-up shots, more depth of field is what we need. Even when focus stacking, more depth of field requires less shots for making a sharp photo: so for close-up and macro, M4/3 has an advantage over APSC and FF.

I bought mine in 2011. After using bulky 4/3s DSLRs the E-PL3 finally fulfilled the 4/3's promise of small sensor = compact camera. I have never felt comfortable pointing a camera at a stranger, and when the subject is aware of the camera the composition is different. I usually shoot waist level. The tiny camera with its tilt screen is essential. To compensate for the E-PL3's limitations I finally bought a big boy camera with a real viewfinder , flippy screen, 20MP and built in mic jack. (Lumix GX8). I couldn't have made the decision without my beloved E-PL3 for my favorite style of photography. BTW I have a hot-shoe mounted mic jack. There in nothing like it available for the Olympus PEN F, hence my switch to Lumix.

That is a great comment, and the E-PL3 is a good intro into Micro Four Thirds as you have proved. Lumix and Olympus have cameras to suit everyone. Very good video. Hull's a place I've wanted to visit for a while. With regard to Olympus, I used an E-330 for years (Four Thirds rather than Micro) and found the colours to be richer. Is yours a preference/settings thing, slight overexposure or an idiosyncrasy of the EM1? Solid photos at any rate.

Thanks a lot for watching and for your nice comment. I only discovered Olympus just before lockdown and I bet you've got some great shots with your E-330. Exposure is an interesting question and I often change. I do only slightly underexpose mainly because I find it easier to recover details in the dark than light. I used to do this a lot at night but now go for a balanced exposure slightly over to reduce noise. Cheers 👍

I was lucky enough to pick up one of these for peanuts not long before covid hit. At the time, these cameras seemed to have gone out of fashion. I wanted an easy camera to carry around instead of my Nikon full frame. After trying a series of small cameras with the awful 1/2.3" sensor size, the E-PL3 was a revelation. Five years later and my Nikon gear is largely gone, replaced by the E-PL3 and the EM-1 Mk2.

It’s a T-Zed not a T-Zee. A ‘Travel Zoom’, pronounced as a Zzzzz not a Zeeee. Unless you are an American of course, a people who generally cannot pronounce ‘aluminium’ or ‘nuclear’ either. As for the camera, I had a TZ6 many years ago, mostly carried in my car for my travel photos. It was OK but nothing like the quality of photos now made by the better smartphones, especially not so in poor light. In good light, the zoom range is the uniques selling point of this compact camera. However, cropping an iPhone renders results that are at least as good. The focus system eventually gave up on mine and I never really missed the TZ, having bought a GX80 interchangeable lens camera that is in a different league and still very compact but not the zoom range. My son in law has it currently, being used on their Arctic cruise holiday combined with the 14-140 [28-280 full frame equivalent] f3.5-f5.6. Apart from anything else, this has far superior dust resistance and easy dust removal should it become necessary, while the TZ would require expensive professional teardown to remove sensor dust.

I also agree that Smart Phones are getting so good they compete well in many areas, and there is a space for all these camera types. Your GX80 and lenses sound like a great option too. Very interesting video! I tried really hard to love my TZ200, 1in sensor, 15x optical zoom, almost the same size as the TZ95. BUT it sucked in dust, had to pay nearly £150 to get it repaired to remove the dust from the sensor, and the image quality just wasn't that great in anything but perfect light. Also the Panasonic image app has not worked properly for about 3 months now so the remote control features don't work any more. If you own one, be very careful how you carry it, it's not dust sealed.
