Very nice wj I know it's been awhile since the posting of your video but any idea what size of tires you were running

Agree on the music, but the car did really well. That LSD rear end seemed to do it's job without much hassle. Impressive driving!

How did you do your front fender on the white Jeep wj is it trimmed or a different fender?
@85IrocZ28TPI4 жыл бұрын
Front fender was trimmed and fiberglass fender flares were added. They were made by Iceland Off-road, the molds are now owned by Notch Customs

I had not seen this video. I was there for the GSW that year. I'm the gray beard in the parking lot driving the ZJ. I didn't do the trail that day because I had to get my front drive shaft out of the repair shop in Grand Junction. I'm glad I finally got to see this video, it was the last time I got to spend time with my friend, who was riding with me. He died from cancer 10 months after this weekend. Semper Fi Dan you are missed.

@@85IrocZ28TPI Yes I did. If I remember correctly we were 2 or 3 vehicles in front of your rig. I was the knothead that didn't drive very well on the rocks & bent the unibody.

At 11:28 what are those sounds while you're flexing? Obviously I know they are natural when fully flexed, but don't those sounds worry you? Thanks.
@willvandertoolen53775 жыл бұрын
No worries at all. That is the sound of the tire lugs grabbing the front bumper when it is fully flexed. I have trimmed a ton, but Golden Crack is a hard flex. This is about the only time I flex hard enough to have this happen. So there is a fine balance between trimming to have no tire rub, and leaving enough material that the jeep has clean lines.

At the same spot I see that your FR tyre catches air but it seems that the Varilok is doing its job. Do you feel that its as successful with the 35s as it was with the stock tyre? Did you upgrade it in any way? How about the friction modifier; using it? Sorry for the many questions; it's because mine stopped working (both axles) and I can't understand why... Many thanks for any help you can give!
@willvandertoolen53775 жыл бұрын
@@harrisaxer2651 The varilocks work well, but they are not lockers. They do not work as well with 35s as they did with stock tires, much more rotational force that can overcome them. The key: Don't use synthetic oil (they already have modifiers in them). I use a dino oil, and add the right amount of Chrysler FM to the axles)
@harrisaxer26515 жыл бұрын
@@willvandertoolen5377 Thank you sir, I appreciate you taking the time to reply. Is there any chance of watching that gorgeous white jeep on KZbin again? By looking around I've found some guy who has plugged the relief valve and alleges the Variloks almost double up as lockers now. That got me buried in deep thought. Since 2012 I'd been using a mineral gear oil which was out of maker's spec (85W140 instead of 75W140) WITHOUT FM with no issues... Sometime after installing the 34s 18months ago, I noticed that the diffs were struggling, and went back to synthetic oil and FM. Then it got worse so I thought it was the FM, and changed into synth without adding FM. When that didn't get me results, changed yet again back to mineral without FM; did an unsuccessful test yesterday. The diffs operate exactly like conventional open. I may need to replace them
