That sounds pretty expensive. In Ireland the same system except for 2 powerwalls and just a 5 kWh battery was only 11,300 euro in Ireland 9100 with grant . What’s happening in the us that it costs so much for installation

I was quoted $50,000 for 11kWh and battery backup. I would save about $130 a month. $50,000 in a decent 401k would return $4000.00 per year or $330 per month in 401k gains.

Looks like someone has been doing a little work on the place, maybe a few years back. Buy it and turn it into a winery!! It reminds me of an old ghost town in Alviso, CA. South Bay near San Jose, back in the 80's. A friend and I went out to it, followed the train tracks on my dirt bike and nothing around. I'm sure it's all built up now but brought back some memories. Hope you and Kari are doing great!! I just looked it up. It's called Draw Bridge.

Good video. Just a tip to take the guess work out of this - if your handbrake light doesn't come on and you roof stops working it s 99.9% certain to be that but to be sure lock the car, then unlock but hold the key in the unlock position. The roof should go down as this ignores the signal from the handbrake switch.

Thanks for the step by step! What did you do to fix your Apple Car play issues? The audio on mine will skip out randomly
@AZdroptop
@AZdroptop 20 күн бұрын
Honestly I'm really not sure what fixed it in the end. It was never perfect, but it did get better over time. My guess is it was the car's software not keeping up with all of the changes from Apple. Subaru kept pushing that it had to be an officially apple cord, but it really didn't make a difference. One thing you could check if you haven't yet is if you phone port is clean. If there is build up in there it can cause the cable to not sit correctly and may cause the issue you are having.

Hi Rick Just found your video and I am having similar if not a worse experience. I had my Tesla Solar panels (7.29 kW 18 panels) and 2 PowerWall3s installed in February 2024. All working great until May 30 and I noticed some drops in solar generation, the drops continued for a while then solar power dropped in half. I contacted Tesla and after much haggling the best they could do was June 30th. Yesterday I noticed again that drops were occurring then power generation completely stopped. Each Powerwall has its own inverter and this I believe is the issue either hardware or software I have no way to know. Did you ever get a resolution?
@AZdroptop
@AZdroptop Ай бұрын
Wow, sorry to hear about that. It definitely sounds like yours is much worse. So far this year the drop offs have been quite a bit less, but we still have them now and then. I have heard different ideas from folks on KZbin regarding the cause, but nothing from Tesla directly. Some say it is possible that TEP is modulating the signal when too many panels are adding power to the grid. Others say it is the heat. I just recently put up a screen to try and keep the inverter cooler, but we are still getting some drops. Please keep me up on what ends up happening when Tesla finally makes it to your home.

@@AZdroptop Update on my Solar system issues since May 30th I have been getting at most only 50% of the solar system working On June 20th I noticed that my solar production was going from 50% to 0% then back to 50% until it stopped completely at 3:00 pm From June 20th to June 25th I have had 0 solar power, I did the only thing I knew how which was to shut PowerWalls down for 10 minutes and then power up hoping for a reset to fix issue but it did not. On Wednesday, June 26th solar came on at 6:30 am and ran all day at 100% (i did nothing to make this happen) Solar has been working properly and today June 20th the Tesla team showed up, They went on the roof and verified all connections, opened up the PowerWall 3s and verified connections, contacted the software engineers at Tesla and they reviewed the data but found nothing. They closed up all the powerwalls and solar is again working. The technicians who came to my house were not able to tell me if Tesla remotely reset my system but that is what I suspect fixed the problem. Sorry about not having a more definitive cause but when working with electronics that is not unusual If you have any more questions for me feel free to post here john

What mounting system do you have for the panels on the roof? Is the roof PVC?
@AZdroptop
@AZdroptop Ай бұрын
I am in Hawaii or I would make a video for you...Roof is just coated with cool coat and is a standard flat roof plywood, tar paper etc. Tesla has the panels on what I would call pedestals that are mounted directly into the roof. There are a number of them and they are all water-proofed to prevent leaks. The pedestals hold up framing that the panels are connected to.

To anyone considering changing your 996 plugs: "the manuals" and most videos just say "unclip the coil packs, remove the two bolts and remove the plugs..." is it easier on the other 996's ?? That does NOT work on a 2003 996 C4 (mine is a C4S but I don't think that makes a difference) I just did it today... almost. I could NOT get to #4. I saw the turbo videos, and they take off the rear bumper cover, and when I couldn't get to #4, I did it too (take off the wheels too! You will need the room). You will also need to take off the passenger side muffler (as Rick did), but my bolts are rusted solid, so I didn't. And that is why plug and coil pack 4 didn't get changed. I will eventually cut the bolts off and replace them. Some people say dropping the engine 4 or 5" makes doing #4 easier too. I will do all that when I do other engine work... Oh, I made a 5mm allen drive with "just enough allen" sticking out of the 5mm 1/4" drive socket to fit in the socket head cap screw (about 4mm is enough), then with a stubby extension, it makes a useful finger tool to get to most of the bolts. You are on your own if you change to the external torx bolts... What Rick did works... slowly...

Thank you. I am not sure if just 1 would have worked to be honest because I didn't ask how much output I was lacking to cover the whole home as a back up. It seems like the 3 is the same capacity, but with more output. 7.5 pw+ vs 11.5 pw 3. Here is a breakdown I found on a Tesla forum. For the customer, there seems to be three main differences: PW3 has higher peak power per battery. Might be important for single battery installations. PW3 uses LFP which should result in longer life. I think it has the same warranty. PW3 has integrated solar inverters, can not be coupled with other solar systems. Overall capacity per battery is the same. If you get a multibattery installation, the peak power advantage kind of disappears. The integrated solar inverter means the system cannot be coupled with other solar systems, so future expansion is not really an option. I don't have a strong opinion on LFP, I haven't seen evidence of significant degradation in lithium house batteries. If you want/meed multiple batteries and don't care about LFP, then I'd just do PW2

39-40 mpg at near 70 mph is really good mileage in my opinion. I think you want to completely drain the battery by the time you reach a destination that you can charge at. I'm sure on a trip like that it would be a hassle to charge over meals given convenience of fuel ups. I am looking for a 2019 volt premier after my 05 Prius lost AC condenser, not worth fixing it in my opinion at 162kmi, I redid the battery myself 4 years ago and everything else is solid. I just want to get into EV and just about all other used market phevs are inferior, I don't want to charge at work. In my Prius I just get out and lock it or hop in and drive while coworkers who charge spend time logging in at chargers or disconnecting. I think phevs should have enough range to cover a 30mi plus commute in one charge at home even after 10 years of degradation to stay relevant. Charging at home is convenient, charging elsewhere is not ideal especially daily. I'm also weighing updating my solar, my system is 18 years old and tree shading has been a factor and after roof destroyed in storm I think I want to put up a new larger system even though my old system was functional at 3.6kW and paid for itself. Sizing a PV system to accommodate commute by EV is pretty nice payback. Wind turbines really are wasteful but in the future they could be used as a crushed carbon source to refine old crushed solar panels in MG Silicon arc furnaces.

I agree that 40mpg is good and it makes me like the car even more. At 80mph and wind I would see 36 to 38, but still nice. It really is a great car. I will say that I was working in Sonoma for 2 weeks earlier in the year and had a 2024 Prius LE as a rental for 2 weeks and it was very good. I have never liked the look of the Prius or how they drive, but this car was excellent. On par with the Volt for acceleration, handling was better, comfortable etc. Only negative was the stereo was terrible. Over 2 weeks and 450 miles it averaged 57.7 mpg! Impressive. If I needed another car like the Volt to commute it I would by the Prius. They look good now and are great at what they do.
